MACC Closure
So the momentous, for us at least, day (or should that be night) approaches when after 35 or so years the Manchester sub-centre and latterly area control centre shuts it's doors and switches off it's BARCOs and overheads for the last time.
By Saturday morning we should all be ensconsed in our well-lit new home a few hundred miles to the north. To those crews reading (hopefully) you won't notice a difference, the voices will remain the same for some time to come, albeit perhaps with a clearer tone.
As a MACC'er, I'd like to wish all of my soon-to-be-ex-colleagues and characters leaving the company at the end of this week for pastures new, all the very, very best - I know a few like chiglet post on here, so best of luck to you all....
I don't think I'll ever work at such a close-knit, friendly and frankly funny unit again and I hope our brand of rebellious camaraderie won't be diluted by the colder Scottish air, the smaller fridge, the single microwave and the fact that there's no Spar or Greggs downstairs

So when I call you on Saturday morning what do I call those on the end of me MACC button? Will my button get a new label on it; doubt it!

Good luck with the move folks, I'm sure that we will get the same sterling service no matter where you are based!
As Blocka said, good luck to all those moving on also, hope that things work out as you would wish.
It will be difficult to adjust to "Contact Scottish" through Liffy though!

Blockla - you call us "Scottish" which is more than can be said for our scottish colleagues, some of whom have rather more profane names for us

Over 50 Manchester staff will be leaving the company Friday. Controllers, Assistants, Engineers & Admin staff.

From an ex-EGCCer that banged out 5 years ago to YYZ . Just like to wish all staff the very best on whatever road you are taking.
Nothing lasts forever they say. Well the memories of MACC and the laughs I had with all the wonderful characters that came and went will last with me forever that is for sure.
Only wish I had got over for a visit before the doors closed. Hopefully will get over later this year for a beer or two in Scotland.

Its ironic as for over thirty years I wanted to work at Manchester and was never able to do so. Now Manchester is closing down and its employees moving to Scotland as I am retiring and moving back to Cheshire. Its a funny old world!!!

It might surprise the 'rebellious insurgent', that the comment by fisbang is the norm up here, everybody is looking forward to seeing MACC in the ops room and getting on with the job. Bring your sense of humour with you and leave your perceived prejudices behind, you'll find the punters up here are no different, sure we'll be having banter. I can't believe you haven't had a pop at us when you've been discussing the move amongst yourselves.

I would like to offer my condolences to all the unfortunate people that are being sent, against their will, to the god forsaken place called Prestwick.
I was unfortunate to be sent there against my will in 1978. It took me 4 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, 5 days and 10 hours to escape.
I have never been back.

Wish you all the best of luck. Heathrow used to be like that. Half of us moved to West Drayton Open Prison and the inmates there objected to the noise we made and the capers we got up to. Hope the Jocks aren't like that!!

In fairness here I have to say - I moved up here early from MACC a while ago and not only do I love the area up here, but my new colleagues are just as much of a pain in the rear end as I am. So we all get on well. I've nothing bad to report about up here at all, not a thing......

Mr Ceannairceach, I can highly recommend on one of your days off after stress at work you take a drive to Inversnaid on the banks of Loch Lomond, via Loch Arklett & Loch Katrine Everytime I go there it looks completely different.
