and i think we all know what company 737-500 is going to be working for. going to EMA to change your 500 rating to an 800 for FR? how much are you being charged eh, go on, give us a laugh. last i heard, MOL was charging not only the cabin crew to wear his uniform, but is also charging the pilots their medical so they can work for him, their 8 hours in the sim twice a year so they can fly for him
can you imagine if the IAA charged ATC's to learn how to be ATC's!!!!!
400,000 people on the dole, the rest emigrating and ATC looking for a 6% pay rise! I have great respect for ATCO's and I mean that but you can see why I am slightly annoyed

I agree with 737 in that I have a lot of respect for ATCs, but nobody on here has explained what the new technology is exactly, and what problem they have with it. From the IAA's site I see they've done away with the upper ATS routes - in what way does that warrant a 6% increase?

New Tech
The last NEW system decreased our capacity according to Eurocontrol, requires more controller inputs to perform non separation tasks ( feed the machine) and has required dozens of patches and bug fixes.

It's nice to see the atc lads in Ireland, standing by there union partners who have been suspended.
Maybe if we all supported them, this dispute would be sorted in hours rather than days,weeks, maybe months.
Lets have a total walkout and ground all planes.

It must be very stressful.
Your employer, not you bears the market risk of providing for retirement. (have you any idea what that sentence means, how lucky you are?).
You have to handle less traffic, disrupt the travel plans of a few thousand people, diminish the profits of airlines already operating in very difficult economic conditions and you choose to strike? Any of you strikers know what it is like not to have a job?

Good on you guys in ireland, keep standing for what you want. I just wish prospect had some balls.
This is meant to be an ATC forum and it appears we don't stick together, it does indicate to me why we in NATS, have a crap union like prospect, which gave in to privatisation, threw away our pension and negotiated a brilliant payrise for 2010.
I for one admire staff who won't let management walk all over them, however timing is probably a bit wrong. Suggest easter holidays next time!!!

I like the ryan air spin. I guess I am overpaid and under worked as well since I am an ATC in europe. Hopefully the euro atc's don't take the lack of support and understanding to heart and stop supplying the endless short cuts to save their fuel............

From Ryanair's web sight today....Due to industrial action by overpaid and underworked air traffic controllers in Ireland, Ryanair has been forced to cancel 52 flights today (20th Jan) affecting over 6,000 passengers.
Mr O Leary seems to forget about all the times our guys stick their necks out and give his flights direct routeings etc!!!

Instead they threw all their toys out of the pram and called a wildcat. (You guys call it a meeting or whatever, I call any work stoppage without the proper notice served a WILDCAT STRIKE!)

Knowing nothing about this dispute it took me by surprise. So I was prepared to give the controllers the benefit of the doubt. But so far nothing is convincing me to think you controllers are the good guys in this one.
To suggest that this dispute is all about the suspensions is not credible. I've yet to see a decent sensible explanation as to why this new technology is so bad. Is it about the technology or is it about getting more money for using it. But then Viper pops in an say

The number suspended is up to 20 now. The IAA ARE NOT going to back down on this one. The ATCO's need to realise that the IAA pay their wages and do the hiring and firing not IMPACT
And these are suppose to be professionals! Ha ha

Yes....is that not what you have being doing for the last two days, ensuring EVERY aircraft flies the full flight planned route, have you any idea how much fuel costs, your dispute is with the IAA, not the airlines!
