IFR/VFR Training flight "flow management"

Good morning all,

I'm looking for input from folk out there that work airfields/terminal areas with a moderate to high number of IFR/VFR training flights that have some sort of booking procedure or "slot management" for practice approaches. I know Brisbane Approach used to have a "booking sheet" for practice approaches, and was wondering what other units out there had/have similar procedures in place.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We've got a booking sheet, one IFR vectored approach per half hour slot with various blocked periods throughout the day depending on where our highest traffic loads are predicted to be.
Non based training schools can only book on the day but our local schools can book theday before as can exam flights. Local schools also get approaches if they go out on an IFR airways jolly then pitch up whenever they want.
Invariably it goes tits up on a regular basis.

Oh and we don't allow holding at the beacon...............well not very often anyhoo.

I'm about 40 miles north of him!

We have a booking sheet with half hour slots for IFR trainers. Homebased can book up to 72hrs in advance, others 24hrs. A half hour slot gets you an entry, two holds, and an approach OR no holds and two approaches.

We only block out slots when we're exceptionally busy with special events, you can try to get the inbounds in beneath the hold.

VFR no restrictions.

We run a booking sheet for instrument training. With a block-out period in the peaks. If you plan it and don't book it; you can be knocked back. If you don't plan it, if you're lucky you'll get it. Otherwise we give priority as per AIP/ERSA and training flights are quiet low in that list.
