Sorry to hear that mate Probably a bit too much information disclosed for airservices liking in your post. However I have had my assessment day so doesn't affect me ! How long after your assessment day did you get your email? After hearing the parts that you failed on, it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence .... Although I am guessing all those areas are debatable , and some may be passed with similar results if they fit into other criteria the airservices require. Either way, I am glad I am doing a short course at the moment to give me a fall back job.

2211race, you should probably edit your post and remove a lot of the detail. As bb1981 said, ASA are very sensitive about people knowing too much about the assessment day (and so they should be). They also take a lot of effort to identify people that have been coached with "inside information". So you are in effect potentially harming the prospects of anyone who reads this forum and hasn't yet sat the assessment day.

Wish I hadn't seen that post with all the details regarding the assessment centre..
With my application at the stage of 'On-Hold for Upcoming Assessment Centre' I'll just have to hope now that I don't get flagged as having 'inside information' on the day.
Maybe best for me to stay off this thread till after my assessment now so I don't screw myself over.

Good luck to everyone who is at the assessment centre stage too!

At the end of the day its whether you can do the job rather than simply pass a test. The assessment day consists of a number of different parts, no point passing the assessment day but then wasting up to 12 months of your life and then bombing out.

Mods, perhaps you should remove the post by 2211 race.

Why remove it? It is not against any posting rules send this thread is full of hundreds of posts containing interview and other information. It should remain.

You are correct Sterling, it is not against any forum rules. However as I stated, reading what is written in that post could directly harm your chances of passing the assessment day. There are 156 pages of information about the recruitment process. However, having read roughly half of this thread, I could not find any other posts with specific information about tasks you will have to perform on the day.

I repeat, ASA take a lot of time and effort trying to detect potential recruits who have been "coached" with "inside information." What is written in that post contains information ASA would not like potential recruits to know prior to the day. Therefore, if they believe a recruit knows this information and has used it to their advantage, this will reflect negatively on their performance.

Sterling,

It's the fact that the assessors can tell if you have been coached or had any inside information regarding the assessment day. Going off my experience there is no amount of preparation that can help you on the assessment day anyway! As has been reiterated in this thread numerous times, "you either have it, or you don't".

Personally, I would not like to see a post like that prior to having an assessment day as it would be more of a detriment to the cause than an advantage. I would rather start the day with a clear head an be prepared for anything, than be worrying all day about these tests I have read about on a forum (which they might not even do). After all, you can't sit down the night before your ATC shift and read a script about what you will be doing the next day, can you!

Finally, the post may not be breaching any rules in particular. However in the forum rules it does state:

Final arbitration always rests with the moderator and administration team. This team also retains the right to remove any post, any thread and/or any member for any reason or no reason at all.

If an individual reads anything on a site like this and goes into an assessment and sprouts any of it verbatim without actually understanding the concept, they wont progress anyway as they will be picked up along the way in all manner of areas.

The post people are referring to is just talking aout concepts that a successful candidate would have to be aware of in the first place.

ATC is a rules based game. You are given a set of rules and you must follow them exactly every time.

Verbalise. Assessors are not mind readers and if you don't tell them what it is you are doing and why they don't know if you solved a problem by design or by accident. If you did not mean to do something, you can't be recognised as knowing you had to do so.

Workload and scanning. You have your basic rules as mentioned above. Everyone has their rules. Some of those rules are different between people but influence the required execution by others or yourself. Using your rules and educating and sharing those rules with others helps the whole operation. Assist others around you using your rules and theirs to maximise efficiency and spread workload. Constantly check (scan) your work and that of others to ensure accuracy and compliance. Relieve others of workload where appropriate while keeping vigilant about your own. This is the whole of ATC rolled up into one assessment without having to talk to a single aircraft.

ATC is change heavy. Be prepare for change, be aware of changes and be accepting of changes. ATC do not interpret change but implement and ensure compliance with change. If there is a change that is in conflict with your already known rules then say so but if it complies, even if you personaly don't like it, shut your mouth and implement it. Suggest alternatives but until they themselves become rules, operate as per procedure.

The above is a summary of the concepts contained in the post in question. Understanding these concepts will be a very good place to start not just in the assessment but as an ATC. It is not giving anyone an unfair advantage as some people will just 'get it' and will likely be successful anyway. Anyone just trying to parrot these concepts without understanding and application will be seen through quick smart anyway.

Best of luck to all. It really is a fantastic job.

Hi Everyone,

How many stages are there in this process starting from the online test till you get the offer?

Thank you.

It always makes me chuckle at how "keen" some people can be yet not even take the time to do thorough exploration of the AsA web site
Or do a search through this forum.

Have enquired about some of the costs associated with the class 3 medical. Am just wondering if airservices reimburses you the money spent on obtaining the medical or whether you just end up wearing the cost yourself?

Notes from Airservices Australia when you receive an offer to commence medicals. Please be aware that the costs associated with the Class 3 Medical Examination will be reimbursed to you once you have commenced employment with Airservices.

DD70 that wasn't stated anywhere in my email with an offer to commence the medical process. So im wondering if they have changed their policy on it? And does employment mean training or once you are rated?

If you log in on the AsA page where your application and profile can be found, you should see a new option go to employee portal. Once entered check your tasks. You'll find your medicals along others. Expect reimbursment once you start training.
