Anyone who had their final assessment 16-18 June in Canberra had any news yet? I had one of my references checked last Wednesday but nothing else yet.

I can't speak for your situation but someone once told me that if you get your references checked, that's pretty much it and expect good news soon. Again, I applied international so I am don't know if it's different if your ab initio.

Just discovererd that I can't find my VCE certificate and ENTER score papers. Going to have to send off for a reissue, hope that doesn't take too long!

Hi, I'm thinking of applying this year for ATC, as I left school in year 10 does anyone know if having a trade qualification as a chef meets entry requirements for ASA?

3kiddies - It doesn't look like that would be enough going from the job application page. AFAIK they need the VCE pass and ENTER/ATAR/?? score to allow them to enrole you in the Diploma of Aviation (Air Traffic Control) that goes along with the learning stream.

So, unless you have a PPL or higher, I think you might be ineligible.

3Kiddies,

The most fun way to qualify to apply is get your PPL . Another option (and much cheaper) might be to do an adult course at a TAFE or the like to pass those subjects at VCE level.

Just ring Air Services and ask what your options are. Might not be as bad as you think.

Just wondering, New hire's in the tower stream, how likely is it to get a posting to a major like Melb/Syd/Bris ?
Would you generally do a few years at a Bankstown/Moorabbin G/A type place then maybe a Broome FiFo/Charter with some RPT then move onto a major Domestic/International tower?

Varies, most (all) of the towers would like an extra person on the roster. Individual preferences come into play as does the needs of the company, plus there is (often) an attempt to match the person to the Tower that will give them the best chance of getting rated. Sydney Tower has a few "new hires" (ab-initios), well, not so new now.

Am I right in assuming that there is no a lot of frequent movement between locations as there would be an amount of retraining required when joining a new tower etc?

That's correct, although for remote locations the postings are usually "term transfers" - you go for a defined period (normally 2 years I think) and are then eligible to leave. You can usually opt to stay for longer.

Looks like I'm in, just waiting for the official word. Have sent them my medical and unless there were unknown poppy seeds in my bagel I should have passed the drug test.

Was told if all goes wll with my application I would be starting 10 November. I forgot to ask though what stream I would be in. Anyone else starting the same date who could shed any light?

Don't quote me... but...

I heard that the next Tower course starts early 2015 so on that basis I'd say it would be En-route, good luck.

hi Benji, yes, it will be good to put a face to a name in here ..

I put down Enroute, but I haven't been told what stream i am in though. Apparently more than one course may start on the same date, so I might not be in the same course as Benji.

I really don't care where i end up. On the assessment day they told us you can apply to move, it just might take a few years to end up where you want. A small sacrifice when you look at the big picture and the sort of career this job offers.

Just spoke with HR and was told I will be in En Route for 10 November. I was actually given the option of Brisbane or Melbourne or to go to Tower, so it appears they do try and put you where you prefer if they can. If I selected Tower stream however, she said I would be placed wherever I was operationally required and most likely not in a capital city.

Did they give you any indication of a tower course start date?

Hey guys, long time lurker, new member. I've finally taken the jump and made an application. I'm just wondering how long it takes until you get past the first part of the application process. I submitted my application on the 14th of July, 10 days later, no reply.

I'm probably being impatient it hasn't been to long. However I'm reading that people have already been offered spots and what not.

Hey Dimension,

This is what I have experienced this year and keep in mind the whole process takes a long time! After applying it took about a month for application status to change to under review (log in and check it out) another week then invite for online testing, next day after completion invite for phone interview, about 2 weeks later invite for assessment day (approx 3 weeks later), then it was a further month or so until reference checks.

Be prepared for a long process and having patience helps but it is worth it. Also there are many courses offered throughout the year as they need quite a few people. Good luck!
