Hello,
I've just a couple of questions about ATCO selection and training with ASA.

- What's the age limit to be able to apply as an ATCO and does it differ between ATC positions?

- Candidates average fail rate during the selection process? How many candidates are screened yearly?

- ATCO students fail rate during training?

Thanks
1. There is no age limit, however from experience people over the age of about 30 have a higher failure rate.

That being said older people can and do get through the training it just depends on the amount of effort the individual is prepared to put in.

2. Well I'm not sure about the averages on this one however I was able to find out for my course they had just over 1200 applications, about 400 were invited to the testing day's, about 120 were interviewed and 12 of us were offered training slots.

3. It really does vary from course to course i.e one course recently had all rate and another recently had all but one fail.

The average seems to be around the 50% mark give or take.

Dont let those numbers put you off, this really is the type of job you don't want to be doing if you are not suited to it and it's better to find out before you have thousands of lives in your hands.

However if you do make it through you will find it is a fantastic job if you can handle the shift work.

I've heard a rumour there's a class starting in Brisbane next year instead of Melbourne. Anyone know anything about this, or received any offers for this course?

Hey guys, recieved my offer via phonecall today. Its for the new Brisbane course starting 28th February. I agree, it was a bit of an anti-climax as I was kind ok looking forward to moving to melbourne but also glad that I've finally got a start date and can start planning my next 18 months.

Croupsurf and television, we should catch up sone time before the course. Would be great to meet anyone else on the Bris course too. And naturally all the trainees heading south are more than welcome.

Guessing post Xmas will be easier for everyone.

Heh, if you're that disappointed about not going to Melbourne, I'll swap with you :P Apparently the people for the Brisbane course were selected at random....

Another one for the Brisbane course here! I was quite surprised and a little disappointed to not be moving down. I suppose there will be fewer delays in the sim this way! I call for a catch up as well. Hamo Hotel again?

ATC_intrain,

May I ask how long did you have to wait after your phone interview before receiving an email invitation to book your assessment day?

Thx

Hi all,

Just got a email sayng........

Thank you for booking into our assessment centre in Melbourne.

Please note that all days are now fully booked for our Assessment Centre and you are not able to amend your date of participation through our online system. Please contact us if you are no longer able to attend on 02 6268 4868.

The Assessment Centre starts at 9.00am. Please arrive by 8:30am to ensure a prompt start to the day. The Assessment Centre venue address is:

Airservices Australia Security TAAATS Building
212 Tower Rd, Melbourne Airport
Tullamarine, 3043

Six candidates are invited each day. We have a number of Assessors made up of Operational Air Traffic Controllers, Managers and our Human Resources team. These people are trained in the assessment and selection process. We try to keep the process as relaxed as possible, as this is the best way to get to know you and determine if there is a real fit between you, the requirements of the job and our organisation. On some days observers and/or trainee Assessors will be present.

You will be advised in as soon as possible after the assessment centre if you have been successful in being offered a place on a training course.

The assessment day is staggered for each candidate. You will take part in:

- A group problem solving activity
- An individual simulation exercise
- A behavioural based interview
- An individual briefing exercise
- Spatial & diagrammatic reasoning as well as verification of your original online test results.

So the questions are:-
a. What to expect in the group solving activity and what to expect.
b. What is the individual simulation exercise.
c. What to expect in individual briefing exercise.
d. What are Spatial & diagrammatic reasoning??

Any help would be appreciated.....

Attention anyone on the tower course starting early in the new year. Is there anyone that is still looking for a place or has a spare room and could do with a housemate? I am 25yo.

I am currently on tower course #45 and have to be out of my current place before the 8th January. I am looking for somwhere around Essendon/Moonee Ponds/Brunswick area (15-20min drive to work).

Anyone interested, please call me (Nigel) on 0418 289 975.

Assessment Centres

As discussed at the Assessment Centres, it would be appreciated if actvities and assessments were not discussed to ensure a fair recruitment process for all.
Many thanks,
Airservices Australia Recruitment Team.

Haha, If anyone doubted my advice that Airsevices was indeed watching them on Ppprune, I would think that doubt would now be removed. Employer of choice?

I agree, Hmmmmmm.

That is hilarious - we always thought it and now we have the proof.

The funniest thing is that you can guarantee that it would have taken several meetings and approval of numerous managers for someone to make that post.

At least we can rest assured that 'they' know what a 'great' job they are doing running the place from reading the pprune boards.
