Bournemouth - CATC Holidays

Hi

Can anyone who is attending or has attended college in Bournemouth with NATS advise on what the holidays are likely to be with effect from January 2007. Would be interested to hear if I will be likely to get any long weekends or weeks off at any time.

Thanks

If you're starting on Basic in January, your first period of leave will be between basic and your rating course.. so probably at the start of April for a period of approximately 10 days.

However, don't plan or book anything based around what you hear your holiday times are.. the last basic course was extended by 1 week with only a month's notice, and the holiday was not increased to compensate for those who then went on to aerodrome.. This somewhat screwed up at least 2 people's holiday plans which had to be cancelled.

They do warn you that holiday times are not to be taken as gospel and things do change but you must treat whatever you're told with a large pinch of salt!

I'm currently attending the college, and we were given 1-2 weeks holiday at the end of the basic course (depending on what discipline you were selected for) and also had bank holiday Mondays off.

Just a word of warning though - if you are trying to plan a holiday during the course - don't book anything up until you know your timetable and have spoken to the course delivery support staff. I say this because our course was subject to timetabling changes including the course being lengthened by a week. Some TATCs were planning to go away / had booked holidays for the original break, and were disappointed when the dates were altered part-way through the course. My advice is to wait until you get to college and then book something fairly last-minute when you know for sure your holiday dates!

I'm trying to get an idea more for planning weekends home as I live in Scotland so a bit of a trek! I'm not planning any actual holidays for a long time as I can't see me affording it even with the increased allowance.

Thanks for the advice though, I'll wait till nearer the time to think about arranging flights home.
