Wannabe ATCO
Hi,
Back in January I failed the stage one selection tests for a NATS Trainee ATCO position, and unable to gain feedback I can only try again next year. Since then I have been on the hunt for a job as an Air Traffic Control Assistant or a job in ground ops with the hope of gaining further valuable aviation related experience.
However, after sending out tons of letters to airport managers and air traffic control units I am not having much luck. I recently found a job as baggage handler which I will apply for whilst continuing the hunt, and I recently visited a NATS establishment.
I would therefore appreciate any ideas on where else to try for jobs, or things I could be doing to put me in a better position of passing all stages next year.
Many thanks in advance
Nick

NW07,
I was in roughly your situation a while back. I'd failed the interview (only 2 stages back then) and needed to kill some time before re-applying
I took a job answering the phones at Bristol Airport just to be around the right atmosphere and it made visiting the tower much easier. I also learnt all the aircraft info on the motivation paper, read this forum every day - just anything to keep your brain active and focused on ATC.
May be a good idea to get some aptitude testing books to keep your mental ability up. Depends on what you struggled with at stage 1 really.
Hope this helps and good luck

Thanks for your replies. I am not sure where I went wrong with the NATS selection tests, however I am currently studying all the aptitude and ATC related books my library has to offer!

If you'd be happy working abroad as well, maybe you should try Eurocontrol... www.eurocontrol.int
