Passed 3rd Stage. Now What???
Hi folks, i passed 3rd stage a week or two ago. Start at the college in september.
I have the medical on the 29th june. Assuming that is successful then i have a few issues on my mind. Not sure if this is the correct thread to post them on... but this thread has been really helpful.
The issues mainly relate to the fact that on a £10k salary, u need to get all your living expenses together etc? Is anyone in the same position as me? In the respect of the fact i am based in Glasgow, so in the first instance it is a big move for me? But also i cant feasibly see any way of manging by myself on that amount of many? Surely it would a case of sharing digs?
Im really looking to see if anyone is the same boat? And with a September start date? what you're plans are etc etc??
Also I was in glasgow for the 3rd stage? I dont know if Kevin etc are on this site? We had two scots a welshman and irishman. All we needed was an englishman and we'd have our own ready made joke.
In all seriousness though i would appreciate any help, advice or contacts regarding the move?
Cheers for now.

Turkish, I'm currently at the college and here's what i think....
Most people stay in bed and breakfasts to begin with. A pretty good idea as you may fail the course and be out of a job in 3 months, making even a 6 month tenancy agreement pretty dodgy. Some do have rented flats/houses on short term lease and others have gone for it and rented one for 6 months. You could never afford a 1 bed flat but sharing defintely possible. With the B@B's I believe they cost about £100 a week (some with evening meal as well) and they have the advantage of no bills to pay. The take home pay is just shy of £700 a month so it is possible to have some kind of life as well.
I don't think anyone on our course worked a 2nd job to supplement the income - it would be VERY hard to do with the workload at the college.
Good luck!!

I moved down from north Scotland, and so don't go home unless on leave.
It is hard on the 10K, but needs must and it is possible to have a semi decent social life.
Most of the college are out in Bournemouth every Friday night.
I share with two other guys on the course, we pay £300 rent a month, and have been given a discount on our council tax from the council.
It is hard work, but it will be worth it in the end, so we all have to grin and bear it.
