General info- CATC
For those of you already through CATC, i seek guidance as to my options. I was accepted by NATS in nov 2006, and will be starting at Hurn in june 2007 when i finish uni. Im hugely looking forward to starting a career of such responsibility, but am a little unsure as to my options at CATC. I know the course is 3 months, at which point students are then either streamed for a further 3 or 6 months, but am massively unsure as to what the situation is with accomodation. I would prefer to take out a short let as opposed to B&B, but just don't know whether any estate agents would allow me to let a property for 3 months at the end of which I inform them of my intentions. Anyone got any clues, or would I just be better off waiting until I actually start down there?

Kieran,
you will soon be able to chat with your future course-mates via the wonders of the internet, courtesy of the NATS recruitment site, so you will soon find out if there are any like-minded individuals who want to share a flat. Bournemouth has a lot of flats for rent so you shouldn't have any problem finding accomodation [although the summer sees rents increase]. Most trainees do tend to opt for B&B at the start though.
Feels good to be heading for such an interesting career, dunnit
Bet your mates from Uni are jealous...

Hey Kieran,
At least a month before you are due to start at B'mouth, HR will send you a couple word.doc's, one with tips about choosing a place & the other is a long long long list of places you could stay, detailing contacts/range/description's. There is also details of a few letting agents who DO have 3-month contracts...and are familiar with the CATC setup.
BTW I am due to start 212 with you [so is RickyPbrown].
Feel free to PM me and Ricky as we were waiting for more 'June' ppl to show up...I think you can CC a PM to 2ppl. When there is more of us we can just email & there is a forum they set up for you prior to starting.

Hey there Kieran!
As EGMC (Samir) said, we both start in June so are in the same position completely! We're thinking of staying in a B&B initially and then moving into a house once things have settled down.
Give me a PM if you'd like to discuss further!
Ricky.

G'day, chaps.
I too (!) am starting 212 in June, what are the odds?
I'll be looking for somewhere to stay, too - If anybody's interested in discussing a flatshare, lemme' know.

This is a bit funny- Ricky & I were waitin' for more 212 ppl to surface and then Sod's Law...
So Ben, what is cheap ENOUGH?
I guess we had better start emailin' instead of using this thread cos it will annoyingly [for some] keep poppin up at the top!
[email protected] is how you can reach ME, and we can just get a CC goin' with whoever joins the club
I know DWB says: you will soon be able to chat with your future course-mates
...but soon can seem like forever!

Just as a bit of extra info for you - You will be looking at at least £100pw for B&B (May be more when your course starts as its the summer period) There are a few B&B's that the college have organised with that will give discounts to TATC's.
You will have a take home wage of just under £700 - so spend it wisely :P

Well done for getting through guys, as for accomodation HR usually send out a list of guesthouses and flats a month before the course but I'm sure that if you want to get a head start they'll send you it now if you ask. I would strongly reccommend getting a B&B for the basic course. It is very rare to let a flat for less than 6month and there is a chance that if you share a flat, one of your flatmates may fail the course and you'll be left with paying the difference. One word of caution - Stay away from the Aloha Wyvern on Glen Rd - very bad reviews form the people there at the moment!

EGMC, have added you to MSN, we'll have a chat on there.
Basically, i don't see that i'll be relocating to Bournemouth, i'm gonna have to commute. Oh, and find someone to rent my spare room at home
