Could someone who has recently sat stage two confirm whether or not the collision avoidance test is still used and also if the strip display management test is used. As I have read posts that claim both of these test are no longer part of the stage 2 assessment. However, the Internet is full of conflicting information.

Thank you.

Sigh, gonna have to reschedule the stage 2 as I can't get the time of my work to travel down from Scotland. Here comes the wait for another time slot

Stage 1 on 22nd for me

Hi guys, new to the forum and just wanted to ask a quick question to the more experienced.

I have my stage 1 assessment for the 22nd feb booked. I've been going over the booklet and the practise tests, but have seen a few people commenting about a maths test or maths element within the stage 1 tests. What tests are these as there is no reference to these in the booklets or instructions!

The only tests I am aware of is the knowledge learnt from the booklet, the spacial tests, diagraming and basic checking tests.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Nick

Hey all,

Going over the booklet for the S1 ready for next Tuesday, i'm just wondering how people grouped the aircraft at the back for revision. Just going through them by page doesn't seem to be sticking as much as i'd hoped!

Thanks!

I got invited to do the stage one test, but the deadline to close recruitment is March and that's a bit short notice.
When is it likely to start again?

Maybe he didn't find any dates available in March and he presumed that the recruitment process will shut down again . Just speculating

most likely as there were about four dates available all for Feb when I was booking my S1. now by reading it again though I bet he means that those dates are on a short notice to attend a S1 rather then talking in terms of the whole application process. and yes, if you don't book any now more should come up eventually.

Hey all,

Thanks!
First I prioritised the Boeings, then when I was confident I was making progress I moved onto the Airbus’s, followed by the rest. When revising I find (for me personally) that I remember something better if I remember it as a list. Once they’re listed I then look for similarities or patterns, so essentially there’s less to remember. In the case with the Boeings it was easy as the higher their model the higher their stats (with the exception of the newer 737’s and the 747). Airbus’ were a little more difficult as their stats are more sporadic, however they do share a lot of stats (the A318,19,20 and 21 all have the same speed, the A330 & 40 share the same speed and cruising level ect).

Obviously everyone has different methods of revising/memorising but I would definitely recommend learning just a few at a time than trying to do them all in one go.

That's a great help, thank you. Thanks for pointing out a few similarities too, saved me some time!
Thanks again!

This might be of interest:
The NATS recruitment team will be freezing Trainee Air Traffic Control recruitment from March to implement a new system – if you are interested in a position, we would encourage you to apply and attend one of the large Stage 1 dates that we have in Southampton, Birmingham and Sheffield in February!

Would you know when recruitment resumes? I failed my stage 2 in November and it would be nice if they let me reapply again now since it's probably going to be a while before they take students again.

Cheers!

I know nothing more than what's on the page I linked, but you can always ask them.

there are also rumours abound that the wait between applications is being extended to 24 months, not 12.

Either way, chances of them letting you re-apply early? Non-existant I'm afraid

Rumours, which I heard first hand from the Head of "Specialist Recruitment" as they call themselves

This could well be part of the new system CV has mentioned above.

Phil

P.S. All you chaps already working for NATS, it's good to see you are still hanging around here to lend a hand.

Will these mean all stages of the application process will be frozen or simply new applications?
