First of all, apologies, I am sure you have all had these questions lots of times. But i have checked the sticky's and the search function and am not having much luck, so please be kind to me!

Firstly, my situation - Applied for NATS and fell at the first hurdle by not passing the initial selection day. Totally my fault, I took some advice from a bad source and prepared for the day to be not what it actually was. But I cannot re-apply for another 12 months, which works out well because I am tied into a new job on contract for 12 months anyway.

Here are the questions:

- Do people tend to improve on thier 2nd and 3rd attempt?
- If you total the amount of NATS and EUROCONTROL attempts, it totals 6, surely this must be enough to get through atleast one of them?
- What are the predicted NATS/EUROCONTROL recruitement demands for 12 months time?

I found the selection tests much easier the second time around because you know exactly what to expect and can prepare yourself appropriately. NATS are currently undergoing a big recruitment drive but big changes are likely to take place over the next year or two... I'm afraid I don't know anything about Eurocontrol though, sorry.

Some do, if they made daft errors in their first, or were just immature. Good spelling helps.
If you can't do it, you can't do it. This applies to about 95% of the population and that's what selection is designed to do. Select those who CAN.
For NATS, as many as we can get our grubby little paws on. If 2000 pass selection, we may have to delay the start of a few [well, most], but there is a global shortage of ATCOs at the moment.

I can't do anything yet for a year anyway, so it will be interesting to see how things change during this time. Perhaps someone will get an 'e' and an 'i' the wrong way around whilst spelling a word, and the world will end.

My stock answer for those who don't get through the screening of aptitude testing is that it may have saved you a year or two of hard work with no rating/job at the end of it. You don't have to be particularly smart to be an ATC, just have a brain wired in a particular way.

That sounds harsh but it is so true. This is not the kind of job that you will be able to struggle through from day 1. You will be found out. I might sound like Simon Cowell but my advice would have to be to give it up. Another point is that if you do find a job a struggle how wiil you ever be able to enjoy it..
