London Wins!

Congratulations to the folks in London for landing the 2012 Olympics.

A colleague of mine was the Atlanta Tower Chief in '96 during the Olympics there and the planning for the onslaught of traffic took years. No doubt, ATC professionals in Athens can attest to the scope of the challenge for ATC as well.

Welcoming the world is both rewarding and challenging for Air Traffic Control.

What I'm intrigued is to see how Bournemouth Airport plans to cope with all the extra traffic that will be generated by the Sailing events being held near Weymouth.

Working (as one does) for a French company, one is obligated to say (in a loud, Norweigan accent) "What you say Jacque Chirac ..."

Thames Radar is going to be absolutely mental! - looking forward to helicopter overload already. EGLC traffic will explode as well no doubt.

Thinking about it, when is the leave released for summer 2012, I'm bagsying July now before the rush!

eyeinthesky - be more worried about the French Secret Service - remember the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in (Auckland?) harbour???

Clearly City Airport wont be able to cope, send them all to London Edinburgh Airport...

tinpot - what do you care... you may have started your LHR TVC by then....

Rumour has it that they are going to use LCY runway for Joy-riding - a new demonstration sport for the world to see how EastEnders really live!

(Assuming they get the runway extension...... )

As the chief garlic munching surrender monkey arrives at Gleneagles, hopefully to be welcomed with a slice of battered Haggis and a glass of Iron Bru, President Tony must be rubbing his hands with glee as he prepares to announce the abolition of the common agricultural policy to use the money to invest in Africa. Coup de Grace??

Shame they are not using the London Regatta Centre (alongside LCY runway) for the rowing and canoeing - could have had a free view from the Tower.

Hey DJ - that has already been earmarked as runway 28R for the seaplanes.

I heard in the original Olympic plans City airport would be closed for "security" reasons, but that might have changed by now.

Cool

Marking calendar now, do not visit England in 2012 <G>... Hate it when there are so many tourists <BG>. Almost always go off season...

regards

Whad 'ya mean getting??

Seeing that Stratford is less than 2nm North West of LCY, and the SID's do a right turn overflying the new stadia at less than 2000ft there may be some concerns.

London 2012 is such good news I don't really care if we lose the Ashes!!

Alan, when I told you about my Ladyboy Hormone Replacement Trans-Vestite Coarse, it was meant to be in confidence, and yet here we are discussing it on Prune......

......hardly discreet!!

TPR

PS. Enough with the cricket talk, this is supposed to be an Olympic thread. Besides, everyone knows that India are going to win the Ashes!
