Wolverhampton
Anyone any ideas what's happening at EGBO ? NOTAM shows that the airfield has switched from ATC to FIS, with the IAP and ATIS being withdrawn. What's happened to the ATCOs ?

"Proper" Airport ??
I seem to recall it being a "proper" Airport when it was known as "Bobbington aerodrome"
Great place with friendly people around who were interested in flying
Has it changed then ?

Due to a "delay" in planning permission, management at the Green cut full time ATC services as they basically couldn't afford it, although they kept the 12 firecrew and CAT3 yellow machine? How can they justify that? no need.
One or two of the ATCO's went up North to ole'doncaster, and the others are just waiting for postings i believe.
FIS is covered by two full time guys, one of which is an ATCO who is doing his validation in order to get some money until he finds an ATCO position, which he will cuz he is a top guy... the part time FISO's who have been there for years and did the weekends have been pushed aside by the looks of it and literally screwed...they were a good bunch, i spent many breaks up there with them, some are well experienced!
The ATIS and Approach were withdrawn as they can only be provided with an Air traffic service.
I think it was a complete money wasting exercise... everyone knows wolverhampton won't go anywhere, they should give up, put it back to GA where it made money and concentrate on Blackpool and the other airports they own.
Anyhow, we will have to wait and see....

Wasn't there some silly plan a while back to start an air link with London from here with a Dornier 228?
Halfpenny Green sounds much better than Wolverhampton Business Airport!! About the only "business" movement here is a Beech King Air which is semi based, even Wellesbourne see's more business flights as a Citation jet regulary visits.
As regards to ATC, these IFR flights that depart Halfpenny Green & Wellesbourne, who issues the airways clearance? Is it done on the ground or do Birmingham ATC co-ordinate once the aircraft is airbourne?

Danny passed away 8 years ago? it has been a long time.
Regarding IFR flights, i believe the tower liase with BHX before departure and when airbourne, it's straight to BHX 118.05, remain outside of controlled airspace and a sqwk.
The Dornier 328 was going to route GLA-WBA-LCY and BFS-WBA-AMS? strange hey?
The Dornier 328 of ScotAir did come in once or twice and just got in, bearing in mind, no pax. It will always be Halfpenny Green to me!
