Question free positions at Heathrow/London??

Hi!

I am an ATCO from Norway who have heard that there is a lack of controllers at London ACC and APP.
I work approach now, and would prefere to work app. to Heathrow. Anyone know if there is free positions at heathrow app?

So my question is, can anyone give me some info on how the situation is, also economically, what salaries/shift plan you can expect?

And most important....are there anyone who know where I should send my CV and get further info?

(Mailadress/phonenumber where I can send further inquieries and CV)

I hope someone can help me with this.

Regards

Care to share?

Would NATS consider running a Eurocontrol-style short course?

Ferris - I actually asked about the possibilty of such a thing to one of the head honchos at London Terminal Control before I left (just in case a certain you know who wanted to follow!). He was of the idea that itmay be a possibility in the not to distant future. However, to work for NATS you have to have the right to live and work in the UK (English parents etc........kind of like ASA's stance on the issue)

Although I'm sure that working Heathrow Approach and other positions is a very worthwhile and satisfying position, are you aware of the cost of living in the south of England?
For sure, you would earn a very good salary, but the cost of housing is beyond reallity, and commuting via our dialpidated system of roads and railways is a nightmare. To be honest with you, I wouldn't choose to work at any of the airports south of EGSS for all the money in the world.

Working tower and approach at a UK regional airport I earn less money than my colleagues who do the same job at Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and others, but I reckon that my quality of life is way above anyone who lives in the commuter belt of South and South East England, (4 bedroom detached house in a rural area, 30 minutes to work maximum, but with all the facilities of a major city within 20 minutes, and 2 hours from London by train).

Still, it would be something differnt to put on your CV.

Not really, Jerricho, as a citizen of an EU country one has the right to live and work in any other EU country.

BTW ASA's stance on the issue is a catch 22. You can apply if you are a RAAFie or if you hold permanent residency, but they won't support an application to get one, and since it takes at least two years to get permanent residency while living in OZ, you'll do anything else than ATC during that time. Then you can try to apply...
Fing ridiculous if you ask me.

Norway isn't in the EU, though. It is in EFTA, which may confer some rights as far as working is concerned.

Aha! Eligible for an EU passport, though!

Thanks for the info, anyway.

Oh, and my club hasn't really been cooling the pool sufficiently, lately. It's just not good enough at this time of year! I'll have to have a word.
Overnight minimum 26C. Perfect G&T wx.
How's your pool? Cool enough?

Are you aware of the cost of living in Norway!!!?!!?!? Now they pay some SERIOUS taxes.......

I would imagine him coming to the UK from Norway is like moving from the South East of the UK to ScATCC.

I think it more as an ice rink, with a chlorinator and filter.

Hi! and thanks for all the replies!

Actually even though we here in Norway are not members of the EU, we have the same righs as the EU citicens through the EFTA and Schengen cooperation. So working within EU is at the same term as the rest of the EU.

And when it comes to money...Lets just say we pay MUCH taxes here in Norway...around 45-50%. Salaries here in Norway as ATCO is ok (tops is about 80.000 euro), but when Norway have been the "winner" the last years as the most expensive country in the world to live in , its good to try working aboroad too.
(just as an illustration...one beer out on pub is about 7-8euro...)

Housing is not exactly cheap too.

Why I put this post about London is mostly because I like the challenge to work at maybe the most busy sector in europe, and ofcourse its a financial gain too with this.

So my CV is already on the way I will let you know later what the result will be.

Thank you everybody for the interest!

Schengen only relates to inter European travel - and the UK is not a signatory. You may find you don't have the same rights as far as the UK is concerned as you have with the rest of europe. I'd look into that in more detail if I were you.

UK Visa Rules

Citizens of European Economic Area (EEA) countries (EU plus Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland) do not require immigration clearance and are free to seek and take work in the UK without the need to apply for a work permit or a residence permit.

Note: If the dependants of an EEA national are non-EEA nationals, they do require immigration clearance from a British Embassy.

Commonwealth citizens may be able to work permit free in the UK provided that prior entry clearance is obtained from the British Embassy in the country where the person is currently living.
