It's because we don't want to look bad in the post accident/incident media scrum...

Media type: "So were you afraid?"
Pilot, post media briefing and keypoints wanted from HQ: "No way, I was following my extensive training and procedures, so was too busy to be the least bit scared.

In the bar later with lads while sobbing into 18th pint of lager: "Christ, I was cr@pping myself, I really thought I was going to die!" Shortly followed by alcohol related collapse

At least that's sort've how it was with me

Having followed the link and read ALL the posts, my decision never to fly in a chopper ( except in an emergency/rescue situation) seems eminently sane.
