Hi all,

Anybody of you can give me some info on what kind of twin turbine would be better to buy for operation in Mali (west africa)

it will need to be able to land and take off from short Runway and be able to carry max 8 pax And must be a strong airplane as well.

also i would greatly appreciate if one of you could tell me where i could find a maintenance company close by ( mali, ivory coast, ghana, senegal, marocco or guinea will be fine)that would be able to perform the checks on such airplane.

thanks a lot

:ok: Alex, you need a twin Otter my man! There is not an airplane built that can handle short strips and rugged terrain as well as a Twin Otter can.:D

The PT6's are reliable, and you will find service centres to handle maintenance on those engines at almost any major African airport. The countries you have listed, all have facilities to maintain a Twin Otter. Give it some consideration. Good luck!

Hi,
You need a big Caravan, one engine, less maintenance and you can carry 13 pax with full fuel in less than 3000ft runway .
All major airport in west africa can do the maintenance, ask for DHL/Solenta.
Soft landing.:ok:

If you want a small twin, why not go for a King Air 90 or maybe a twin caravan(not that small). Not as rugged as the twotter or the C208, but hey, you wanted it.

Alex,
Take those extra seats away from Twin Otter and you are all set to operate a rugged 6-8 pax airplane!

Alex 123,
It all depends on what airstrips or where your client wants to go. Strip length and conditions play the factor. Then the type which needs to be durable and maitanable in a hostile environment. You cant really go past a PT6 for rugged reliabitity. Allthough the Garret when maintaned well is on Par.

6-8 People only calls for a C90 but even a B200 is worth considering. C90 may confine your destinations as youll probably get an Out and back range of around 750-800nm.

B200 would be more than this. Have a look at these figures.

http://www.skyrelief.co.zw/kingair.htm

Now ofcousre KingAir is more comfortable and fast but youll need 800-1000 metre strips for it.

The Otter as some posts have also mentioned, are very specialised and could carry considerable freight if required with only 6-8 Pax. But get a DHC-6-300 dont bother with a DHC-6-200 as they are too old and have problem engines. There will be many cheap DHC-6 -200 s on the market so beware.

But very good in short strips only 1350ft at max on a 35c day flaps 20 or 1750ft flaps 10.

Another option is a Turbo Commander 800=1000 m strip 6=8 pax 270kts allday and quite comfortable.

Rheims caravan as suggested previously quite good also, and are a newer airframe than some cruising at 230kts.

Anyway hope this helps
