What's the easiest way to meet an arriving passenger by car, should I park in the short stay or is there a pick up area?

Short term parking is good but quite pricey. Problem is it's really your only option for picking up at T4 as the police will move you on if you park anywhere outside of the car park for any length of time. When you go into the car park turn right and down the circular ramp to the ground floor. Arrivals is on that level.

In these days when everyone has a mobile phone you could try the spotters method.

This involves waiting for your friends flight in a place like the green at the end of Myrtle Avenue then driving round to pick them up when they call. Thus avoiding BAAs extotrionate parking charges.

Fair be fair, I was at STN last week and had to park in the short stay twice, and it was considerably cheaper than LHR T3 ...

I think the reason is not BAA, but that the LHR Short Stay car Parks at NCP operated, and the one at STN is by Meteor.
