I am a pilot living in the US and I am wondering about Cathay Pacific. I have both the FAA and JAA certificates and I am flying for a US airline.

My questions in particular are:
1) What are the minimum hiring requirements?
2) What is the Interview process like?
3) Lifestyle (schedule)?
4) How soon could one transfer to other bases? Is the initial base Hong Kong or wherever you want to be?
5) Salary (1st year, 5th)
6) Upgrade time?

I am sure there will be more but this'll do for now.

Thanks for the help.

I am assuming you want information for S/O.

1) What are the minimum hiring requirements?

The minimum requirements for Direct Entry Second Officer applicants are:

1. A current ICAO Airline Transport Pilot License or a Commercial Pilot License (obtained without exemptions) with a pass in all ATPL ground examinations
2. A valid multi-engine instrument rating
3. A minimum of 1,000 hours fixed wing (preference is given to applicants with turbine or multi-engine experience)
4. Experience commensurate with age
5. Able to satisfy Hong Kong aviation medical requirements
6. Fluent spoken & written English.

2) What is the Interview process like?

Interview involves two stages. First interview in USA involves technical quiz, medical questionnaire and interview. If you pass this second stage is in Hong Kong and involves psychological test, full Hong Kong medical, simulator ride in B747-200 and interview.

3) Lifestyle (schedule)?

Lifestyle is OK as an S/O. Not as good if you are a F/O based in Hong Kong.

4) How soon could one transfer to other bases? Is the initial base Hong Kong or wherever you want to be?

As an S/O you must be based in Hong Kong. Once you become a fully qualified F/O on the B744 or Airbus fleet and are CCQ, you can request a base if your aircraft flies to that port. Bases are awarded based on your seniorority. Unfortunately there are no bases on the B777 fleet.

5) Salary (1st year, 5th)?

Salary for a first year S/O is about HK$386000.00 (US$49500.00) plus allowances per year. By the time you are here 5 years you should be at least a first year F/O. If you were based in Hong Kong you would be earning about HK$771000.00 (US$98800.00) plus allowances per year.

6) Upgrade time?

Upgrade time at the moment is about 3 years to JFO and 10 years to command.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Titan,

If you dont mind one more q....does the applicant determine which position he/she is interested in or does CX determine it....ie pax fleet S/O or freighter fleet F/O...min requirements met for both....any suggestions which is the greener of the two.

Cheers.

Generally when you are interviewed for a F/O position on the freighters this is where you will go. If though an S/O position was available and no freighter position they would probably offer this to you.

In terms of which is the greener, depends if it is lifestyle, i.e. living in you own country, or the money. If it is money the S/O way is probably the best way to go.

Titan,

Thanks for that.....guess in the real world very few lucky people get exactly what they want (ie both)...but just getting in would be enought for me....good luck to all those waiting for that same chance

Cheers:ok: :ok:
