With the arrival into New Zealand of the RNZAF's B757's, what will become of the B727's presently sitting together on the Antarctic ramp @ NZCH? Because of their age and the fact there are literally hundreds of 727's sitting idle at various places around the world, will they be reduced to scrap or "parted" out?
I personally think one should be donated to Air Force World at Wigram. They've both seen plenty of years service and it would be great to preserve this "history". :O

With their outdated avionics, they are very unlikely to see service anywhere ever again, and scrapping will most likely become the preferred option.
I agree that one should go to Wigram, but get it there while it can still fly! ;)

One is going into Woodbourne to be used as a training aid at the Engineering school and the other is up for grabs with a couple of freight companies interested.

At CHC at 09:30 today, I noticed one of the 727's being towed across the apron. When I returned to the airport at 11:30 both had disappeared from view. Perhaps they have both gone to the ANZ hangar to be "checked out" before leaving?

Both will fly again ...... for a while, 7272 is being prepared for a ferry flight to WB and 7271 will be used to get crew current to do the flight and practise the short field landing they will have to use! ....... should be an interesting approach to watch.

FED EX.
Heard they have wanted one for years due to the large cargo door, but wouldn't know if that was still the case now that they have ordered a gaggle of A380's:confused:
