Passenger on SIA flight goes berserk, does the full Monty
By Tanya Fong

A SINGAPOREAN aboard a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight home from Perth on July 11 went berserk.

Two hours into the flight, the man, 31, started acting up.

When the passengers were served refreshments before dinner, he stood up and flung the contents of a glass of red wine on passengers sitting around him.

He was in the rear section of the aircraft.

A woman, who witnessed the incident but did not want to be identified, said that he then began shouting and the person sitting next to him, a relative, tried to calm him down.

His efforts were in vain and the man made his way to the toilet in the middle of the plane.

Just when everybody thought the excitement had subsided, there was a shriek from the toilet.

The eyewitness said: 'When I looked up, I saw him naked. He wasn't even wearing underwear. He was shouting, and tossing credit cards and some photos out of his wallet all over the place.'

The crew members could not do anything immediately because they were stuck behind the two meal carts they had wheeled into the aisles.

Moments later, the naked man moved towards the business-class section.

However, he was subdued by crew members and bundled up in blankets before he could get there.

He was escorted back to the toilet and persuaded to put on his clothes.

The man who did the full Monty was an SIA steward, who was travelling as a passenger.

He had been fined for disorderly conduct in Perth and was being brought home by a relative after a doctor there had said he was fit to fly, said an SIA spokesman, who confirmed the incident had taken place on board SQ 226. It is not known what he did in Perth.

After the plane touched down at Changi Airport at about 9.30pm, he was taken to hospital and later transferred to the Institute of Mental Health.

He is now on medical leave and the airline will ensure he receives the necessary care, the spokesman added.
