Singapore Airlines load factor down in June

SINGAPORE, July 15 (Reuters) - Singapore Airlines Ltd , Asia's largest biggest carrier by market value, said on Tuesday it carried fewer passengers and cargo in June from a year earlier, citing fallout from SARS, but loads were an improvement on May.
It said its usage of passenger and cargo capacity fell 3.8 percentage points to 70.3 percent in June from 74.1 percent in the same month of 2002.

It said Singapore's removal from the World Health Organization's list of SARS-affected areas contributed to better demand from May, when the overall load factor stood at 63.6 percent.

Its passenger load factor in June was down 6.7 percentage points at 71.8 percent from the same month in 2002, while its cargo load factor slipped 1.6 percentage points to 69.6 percent versus June 2002, the airline said in a statement.

Singapore brought the deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome outbreak, which killed 32 people and infected 206, under control in May. Shares in Singapore Airlines closed 0.91 percent down at S$10.90 on Tuesday.
