Hi there,

According to JAL´s web page LHR-based FA´s spend up to 9 nights away from base.

What is the average duration of your trips?

How many trips do you get per month?

How many standby days do you get per month?

Can you request to get the longest trips?

Thanks for the info,
Xtra Crew

Hi there just to answer your question:

Normally get anything from 60-85 flying hours per month. 85 is the max we can get rostered in any 1 month. Normally have 5-6 sectors a month which is about 3 trips.

LHR crew fly to:

LHR-KIX-LHR 4 or 5 day
LHR-NRT-LHR 4 or 5 day
LHR-NRT-SYD-NRT-LHR 9 day
LHR-NRT-DEL-NRT-LHR 10 day

other flights include postioning and the operating from:

MXP-NRT-MXP 6 day
CDG-KIX-CDG 5 day or 6 day
CDG-NRT-CDG 5 day
FCO-NRT-LHR 5 day
AMS-NRT-AMS 5day

the shortest trip you will ever do is a 3 day trip which is work out direct from LHR and position back or V V.

MAX standbys is 4 a month but sometimes you dont get any. You will also get ground duties which will include japanese lessons. All flights leaving LHR will have 4 western crew onboard and 11 japanese crew. All other flights have only 2 western crew.

Aircraft trained on:
B747 - 200/300/400 but you will find you will always work now on B747 - 400
B777-200ER
MD11

Anything else you want to know let me know

PS: If anyone is interested JAL LHR base are currently recruiting for crew at the mo: Just to perpare all of those who wish to apply, the training course lasts up to 4 months. 3 month class room based followed by 1 month online training: The address is

Japan Airlines

Good Luck for those who are interested!!!!:ok:

Hi Jbird11,
Many thanks for your detailed reply.

I have 2 more questions:

1) "the shortest trip you will ever do is a 3 day trip which is work out direct from LHR and position back or V V."

Do you get any rest in a hotel between your working flight and the positioning flight back to LHR?

2) On the flights that involve positioning from LHR (eg. CDG-NRT-CDG), can F/A living in an european city different than LHR request a positioning flight directly from the city they are living to CDG instead of doing the positioning flight from LHR?

Thanks and regards from sunny Spain (ALC),

On a 3day trip when you work out off LHR you get 1 nights rest and position back. As for your other question unfortunately not you must in theory be living in a 45miles radius of LHR and therefore you must report in LHR for your briefing etc regardless if you have a trip out through a european station. This also applies to the return so for instance if you where coming back through AMS, you would have to go back on the positioning BMI flt, you dont finish your duty until you get back to your base in LHR.

Hi Jbird11,

2 more questions, please!

1) On trips where you have to be positioned to another european airport from LHR before you get on your working flight to Japan. Do you get any night rest between the positioning flight and the working flight or once you land in lets say CDG you immediately start your working flight to Japan?

Does the same apply on flights back via another airport?

2) If it is not too indiscreet, what does a junior F/A get per month including everything (basic pay, comissions, per diems, etc)?

Regards,
Xtra Crew

... and 2 more ....

1) do you get paid during your 3 months class training? do you get free accomodation if the training is in japan?

2) when you finish a trip in lets say CDG, you said you HAVE TO position back to LHR, even if you live in CDG?

If you stay in CDG, without doing the positioning flight back to LHR. Would they find out?

With Reference to your messages....

Just wanna know whether JAL recruits Malaysian for their Cabin Crew based in LHR or it's only for The European Citizens?

I'm Malaysian with 6 years flying experince. Would it be possible for me to apply?

Thanks.

JAL has two european bases: LHR & FRA

Whose F/A´s are better off? The ones based in LHR or the ones based in FRA?

Is there much difference in rostering?
