More good news from BHX:-

Birmingham International Airport (BIA) has recorded its busiest month ever. It handled 911,713 passengers in June, an increase of 13.3% on the same period in 2002.

The increased availability of low fares, new routes and increased frequencies from Birmingham were the main factors behind the growth in passengers.

Scheduled traffic overall was up 28.1% compared to June 2002. Travellers on EU flights rose by 35%, and passenger traffic on international services grew by 28.5%. Meanwhile, the number of people using domestic scheduled services increased by 26.9% and traffic to the Indian sub-continent rose by 18%.

Scheduled traffic accounted for 57.7% of the total June figure while charter passengers made up the remaining 42.3%. Air Transport Movements were up by 3.3%.

BAA have also announced their June figures today:-

LHR up 0.9%
LGW down 1.6%
STN up 13.1%
GLA up 3.1%
EDI up 11.8%
ABZ down 0.1%
SOU up 69.8%

Growth, development ? Don't let Alistair Darling hear you say such things or he'll soon shut BHX down and ship out to Rugby International.

By the way I notice that the directional signs on the new M6 Toll in the A38 area, carry no Airport decals, just directions for London, B'ham (E, S, C), Coventry - perhaps the builders know something we don't.
