A few days ago I was ferrying a King Air from MEX to MFE. During the pre-flight navigation planning portion I noticed something I had either forgotten or always ignored :\

On the Jepp Latin America low/high enroute certain nav points - in this case VORs - have a small circled M. According to the Jepp legend it stands for "met report required". The other pilot didn't know about it either, is it something that is still being used? Are you required to obtain or submit a met report and does it apply to low or high altitude or both? Mexico & Monterrey center and the airlines didn't seem to care ...

Almost nobody cares enough to do a Met report at those nav points.
They should though because the wind/temps at those points are often way off from that which was forecasted.
