I hear on good advice from numerous sources that both Mr Jones and any board members aligned with him were "pushed" out on Friday. Mr Jones resigned on Saturday and he's history. Will Rex be far behind him ?

Rex Airlines CEO departs

The head of Rex Airlines, Michael Jones, has quit as the company's chief executive.

Mr Jones's resignation took effect from last Friday.

The airline's chairman, John Hindmarsh, and another board member have also resigned.

Former general manager Guy Farrow is now acting as chief executive officer.

Rex Airlines was launched out of the ashes of the Ansett collapse in 2002 and came out of the amalgamation of Kendall and Hazleton airlines, flying to Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne and regional areas of NSW.

The company has an agreement with Virgin airlines to allow passengers to book flights on both airlines and check their luggage through to one final destination.

It is believed the reason for Mr Jones' resignation was an acrimonious relationship with the company's Singaporean stakeholders.

Michael Jones was the only board member to be removed. All other stakeholders have maintained their position. It's worth noting that the Singaporean connections on the board now hold the majority and will have overall control of REX's direction for foreseable future. I'm told that a complete route review is currently underway (again) and changes will be announced shortly.

Where there is smoke there's generally fire. One hopes it's not excessive $100 bills that are burning!
