Washington Post did an inflight review of Hooters Air.
Article can be found here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28906-2003Jun24.html

You may need to give a bit of info about where you live to access the site, but registration is free. Accompanying the article was a pelvic-level photograph of one of the cabin crew, who the article explains is not a trained flight attendant.

Sorry, i couldn't get the picture to paste here, but I am sure she had the undivided attemtion of the male passengers the entire flight.

Yep, they were going to show pictures of some UAL Pac Rim flight attendants but the camera broke...

In the U.S. female flight attendants can't be made to wear makeup or stay fit, that would be 'sexist'. Of course, now that the airlines are going Tango Uniform, some warmth has returned to the long haul passenger service in an effort to beg the pax to come back.

As anyone who's been to a Hooters restaurant will know, they're just 'delightfully tacky but unrefined' restaurants which have some very pleasant young ladies as waitresses. Nothing smutty or X-rated, in fact families often eat at Hooters. OK - so the waitresses wear T-shirts and orange shorts, but they're not exactly Playboy bunnies!

Good luck to Hooters - what's wrong with a bit of fun in this boring politically correct world?

27th Jun 2003, 09:14
My Ex-wife worked for PSA operating at that time between LA and San Francisco. The Flight Attendants wore revealing Short-Shorts and low cut blouses. My Ex was a reservations specialist and she along with the other girls in the office was issued a badge that said, "PSA Pure, Sober and Available”. All of the female employees had to wear the badge.

So much for Political Correctness.

BEagle, you're right, nothing wrong in this day and age being served by a good looking girl in next to nothing and showing a lot of cleavage -delightfully tacky but unrefined definitely!! Beats some of the old crows where I work! Hooters delights in being NOT politically correct, and for some of us it's a breath of fresh air!
And I have to differ, some of the girls at the Augusta (GA) Hooters are good looking enough to be Bunnies!!
Good luck to the airline, hope it does very well.:ok:

Just to clarify, those are not flight attendants... just "hostesses"

Anyways.. here's more.. taken by a pax.. that pax being me ;)

Colonel Klink - yes, sorry, what I meant was the young ladies wear a 'beach theme' uniform which is not as revealing as the Playboy Bunny uniform! Certainly many of them have the .....err, physical attributes often associated with a Bunny - if one can say that in this day and age without the Fun Police frowning!

Back when we actually night-stopped for longer than minimum ground time, a visit to the nearest Hooters for a jug or two of suds and a bite to eat was always fun - the waitresses were always friendly and it was a very pleasant environment! Actually saw some USAF folk in flight suits having lunch in the Wichita Hooters once - and that was totally unremarkable, it seems. But then the PC brigade banned them from eating there in uniform...

I thought Hooters was crap when I went in there. Lights too bright, the burdz tights were too thick and the atmosphere was naff. If you're gonna go and have a perv then do the job proper and go to a strip joint I say.

I think Hooters is simply cringeworthy more than anything risque or PC challenging....... mores the pity and I wouldn't go out my way to travel on it's airline either.

I am so glad that we do not have an airline that follows this dis tasteful act in Australia. Sure the girls are attractive, but please get some class and respect for yourselves. And for the men that travel on this airline you should also get some respect for yourselves. My view is that the girls are on equal par with woman that work in strip joints, and the men are on equal par wuth the desperato's that visit them.

I would never support such a disgusting company in any way. No matter how much I loved flying.

Could not imagine what the world would be like if we all liked the same thing.

Knold
28th Jun 2003, 19:05
Hypoxic Harry why can't you respect the girls who work for Hooters own choices?

It's not exactly an illegal strip joint or a brothel where the girls get pushed around and have to do things they don't want!

And I especially like the way you make strip girls feel about themselves! You’re probably right, they are less worthy of trotting this earth. It should be a privilege for the people from higher society, the ones that can hold their nose high enough.

Now I have never been to a strip club in my life, actually I’ve never been to Hooters either because this has been my choice so far. Should I ever change that, I certainly will not want to hear from people like you telling me what a perverted, degenerate I am for doing what I choose.

BTW, I think there might be strip bars in Australia too. My my my, where shall you run to now?

Hypoxic Harry
28th Jun 2003, 19:12
I do respect that everyone has a choice in life, however, I do not agree that females should have to lower them selves by showing off certain body parts to get ahead in life or get noticed. I find it quiet sickening to think that some ( not all ) but "some" males on those flights would be only thinking about getting that girl into bed and fantasising about her. How would you feel if you knew some guy was thinking like this about your daughter, sister?

How can these woman gain authority in the cabin, when they are dressed like that?

Knold
28th Jun 2003, 19:21
Let’s get one thing straighten out for you. Guys think of girls like this all the time. It makes no difference if they work in a library with lots of clothes or if they work in a bar with less clothes. THIS IS WHAT WE DO!
Of course it’s going to be someone’s daughter or sister but that’s the way it is in life. They are not minors! That makes the whole difference.

About the flight attendants. They are not dressed like they are at Hooters. On the plane there are two service attendants with Hooters outfit. They are not flight attendants and are only there for the service part of the flight.

If the flight attendants had the same clothes, why wouldn't they gain authority?
You'll find that this is what makes men do what they're told. If a nice looking woman with revealing clothes ask them to.

Hello Hypoxic Harry,
As your name suggest, could it be that after veiwing the pictures you had a momentary lack of oxygen from hyperventilating that caused you to reply as such.
You should breath into a paper bag to bring you oxygen level back to normal then try to respond accordingly.

I was unaware that only 2 girls did the service dressed tarty. We have nothing like this type of trash in Australia. I thought that the entire crew were dressed like tarts! Wow! What a relief it is that there are only two girls on board that resemble hookers...oops sorry...hooters!

Knold and Springbok, no matter what you write in your debate, I am never going to agree with such tartiness. Its just not my style, I dont like it, and I never will. There is a fine line between sexy and trashy, and unfortunatly hooters airline have crossed that line.

Knold, its clearly obvious we all know which head you think through, if a female in hardley any clothes can so easily get authority over you. Wow! Do you bark, beg and play roll over as soon as you see a pair a boobs? Pfffff, god help you in the middle of summer on an Australian beach! Youd have to wear a muzzle, like all dirty dogs do!

If it helps redress the balance Harry, to employ only female servers at Hooters in some states in the U.S. is deemed sexually discriminatory hence some have to employ guys.

To be honest, it really wouldn't do anything for me to have a guy in a g string come and serve my meal or drink on an aircraft. I justy think that there is a time and a place for things like that. Even though I totally disagree with male and female strip shows ect ect. Dont get me wrong, I am no prude. I believe that everyone has a right to express their own opinion and i strongly believe that everyone, male or female, has the right to make their own choice on what career path they choose in their lives.

I actually took one of their flights from Newark to Myrtle Beach. A totally professional operation and the plane was pretty much empty. All the Hooters Girls did is toss peanuts/ goodies and ask stupid questions for a prize if you knew the right answer...not unlike SWA. After that, they slept on the seats in front of me.

Grow up everybody. It's a gimmick the public will either buy into or not. At least i arrived on time.

Gotta agree to disagree with you on this one:D

quote: We have nothing like this type of trash in Australia

You are so wrong there!

Yes we have strip joints, we have topless bars, we have 'skimpy' bars, there is even a topless hairdresser shop in MEL. Not my cup of tea, but they obviously have their places in society, or else we wouldnt have so many of them ! We even show topless women at the beach/ strutting down a catwalk on the prime-time news!

Face it sex sells, guys love to look at the female form, and some girls enjoy showing it off! Its a fact of life!

The girls working on these aircraft are obviously doing it cos they want to, and are probably getting paid very well to do it! Life is about choices, you have the choice not to fly with this carrier, or go to their restaurants. But calling them 'trash' for doing it isnt fair. They are probably just outgoing young girls who are proud of their ..... errrr......assets !

And you cant blame guys for wanting to see it - that's a condition we call 'the average human male' :p

Its been ages since I read such  on these forums!

No doubt you would like all countries to be Saudi Arabia and keep women totally out of sight. If the Hooters girls want to do the job its their concern, its called freedom. As I said in my previous post I'm glad we're on opposite sides of the world, I dont think you would like Europe, too many things to offend your perfect vision of the world...... Stressfree,

lits called freedom

Yes thats correct, it is called freedom, and there is also something called "freedom of speech" and that is what I am doing. Everybody, in the western world has the rights to freedom of speech, and we are all free to voice our thoughts. One can not be hung for that.

What I am debating is that, there is no need to have this sort of behaviour on airlines. Us flight attendants from all over the world, have come along way from the days when we were viewed only as "sexy" things to look at in the sky. We are there for saftey, and service. NOT as sex objects.

As I have said before, there is a time and place for everything. We are professionals, lets keep it that way. What would you do if your dentist came out in a bikini, or boxer shorts? And, how about the heart surgeon wheeling you into surgery dressed as bozo the clown. Would you still class them as professionals?

Hypoxic Harry,
There you go again.................. You really need to GROW UP.
Shooting from the hip, again, you completely miss the point (no surprises there). The fact is that whether you think there is a place in this business for glamourous F/A's or not is not an issue.
The fact is that Hooters have made a market for this kind of thing and if it pays then thats a few more jobs for those in the industry. It may not be for you but to slag off those who are trying to make a living in the business is just not on. People should be able to trade on whatever assets they have (thats freedom). Whats your opinion of Virgin Atlantic? The girls are all far to sexy? You think thats a coincidence and it just works out that way? Safety, service or whatever - it dosn't hurt to look desirable and dosn't mean you surrender your professionalism by looking good.
I'm sorry to say that you do yourself a dis-service by the nonsense you speak, also to the colleagues around you. Face facts - if a gimmick (tacky or not) sells seats then be grateful for it. You may need something extra some day. Its not an ideal world and many airlines would be really keen to boost sales by whatever legitimate method possible; jobs depend on it. I predict that when you've built up a bit of experience you will moderate your opinion and be more tolerant of things that don't quite meet your own expectations. Let me also say I dont mean you any offence or bad feeling but I reckon you're giving the Hooters girls an unfair deal.
I'd better stop there or the moderator will step in. Think on my friend, life isn't always black or white, the comment you make about me reading my own posts lets you down, not me, but you.
Wisdom is hard to come by - I suggest you look harder..............

Stressfree,

This debate is becoming rather boring, but seems to continue. I am aware that each person in the world has a very different idea on what is right, and what is wrong in society. You seem to be upset that I have made it well known that I do not agree with the "sex sells" image in avaiation. And I repeat IN AVAIATION! You clearly do not agree that I have stated what my thoughts are. Its all well and fair to say that I have not given the hooters girls a fair deal. Well blow me down with a wet red feather! What about a fair deal to others who are only airing ones thoughts. Its a two way street pal. My posts are not letting me down any more than yours are letting you down, so it may be a good idea to not tell me to grow up, as that could easily be thrown right back at you too.

As we all know, play the ball not the player, and this has just got way out of line now.

I'd like to thank all the Ppruners that do support and allow me for having my own thoughts on "Hooters Air".

Now just before I sign off, I'd like to say just one final time that I do not agree with what these girls are doing onboard an aircraft. Said it before and I have said it again.:yuk:

Geez guys - everyone settle down. This topic has obviously attracted attention but this is a forum for discussion not slagging off. I can understand all the opinions stressed about this issue. On one hand it is thought that sex shouldn't be used to sell in the aviation industry. On the other hand it is said that it is a good idea as there is an audience for such an airline and it does create employment opportunities.

I myself don't completely agree with the idea behind the Hooters airline. Personally (and I am not saying that anyone else's opinion is wrong here) I feel that taking Hooters to the skies was taking it a little too far. However - it is still an airline - that is up and running whether is it liked or not. There are still jobs available and should respectable women or men decide to take up the opportunity then good luck to them all.

I think this issue of debate has reached its boiling point and I feel everyone needs to calm down and realise that every individual person has a different opinion. That is not a bad thing - afterall we are only human.

This type of attitude will get you no where fast in life pal. You may not like my beliefs, but there is no need to come across "pig headed" and stubborn. "Discuss it when I enter the real world?" I gather you are refering to your world being real and correct. How can you have such a closed mind, in believing that only your beliefs are correct? Please remember and respect that just because others do not agree with everything that you think and say, does not make them any less of a person, and definatley does not mean that they live in some kind of another world that is not real.

I will never be entering your so called "real" world, so no need to discuss this any further. I have stated what my thoughts are on this topic, and I am proud of my thoughts and will stand by them.

I have not ONCE said that sex doesn't sell. That is not what I have been debating about, if you read my posts, you will see that I am debating that I DO NOT agree with it on an aircraft. Simple!

And NO, I am not "homo" as it has been put. How small minded to think that just because someone doesn't like that type of behaviour in the cabin, that oh yes, we must call them a "Homo". Now, I would see that as someone living in the dark ages. Once again, time and a place for EVERYTHING. How many times do I have to say that I do not agree with it in the CABIN? That is all, it's quiet simple really. I am sure that most readers have understood what I am saying, without them thinking, that Hypoxic Harry has to be a "Homo", he has to be "A-sexual" ect, all just because he thinks that the image of airlines should be kept professional and classy.
