Heard today from a fairly reliable source that European will be introducing 2 x B737-300's by this October, with a further 4 to join the fleet during 2004. No mention of where the aircraft are coming from, only that they are to replace the ageing -200's.

Anyone confirm whether this is the case.

There are always rumours circulating about European re-equipping their fleet, considering the age of some of the aircraft.

I had heard something about European taking some of the many Boeing 737-300/737-400/767-200 aircraft that US AIRWAYS are currently getting rid of, but I dont know!

The 2 -300s this year seems likely to happen. Not sure about additions next year. Operating two different types of 737 could be expensive - it may make economic sense to replace all the -200s as soon as possible.

Chiglet,

Sorry that you are confused.
European operate B737-200's and B747-200's. We are talking about the replacement of the B727-200's with B737-300's.

Hope this clarifies things.

Apologies, slip of the finger. I meant B737-200's with B737-300's!!!!

Hi,

The 737-200 fleet is in need of replacement. All of the 737's EAC have were built in the mid 70's. There oldest 737 is G-CEAF built in 1974.

That might explain the appearance of two Ansett 737-300 at BOH this week. Right now they are parked at back close to the European hanger access taxi-way.

Oh Yeh could very well be. Forgot that they were getting ex Ansett 737-300's. And also being at BOH would make perfect sense!
