Worrying breaking headlines about multiple casualties in two incidents in Iraq. One report tells of a Chinook carrying a QRF taking several hits and multiple casualties. My thoughts go out to all involved. Why has this been released prior to NOK.

Why has this been released prior to NOK.

Sadly, probably because we live in media-frenzied times?

BBC reporting six MPs killed, and 8 other servicemen injured, seven during an attack on the Chinook carrying the QRF.

Thoughts to the families of all, especially if there are some yet to be told (let's hope not.)

The actions of the press are nothing new. I recall writing a rude letter to (I think) the Telegraph in 1975 when they reported that a SOAF Huey had been sammed in the Dhofar war. It was only one paragraph on the back page I think, but actually stated:The 2 pilots were British, NOK have not yet been informed
In the days before mobiles, Cable & Wireless made a lot on our "it wasn't me Mum" telegrams...

"You cannot hope to bribe or twist
The honest British journalist.
But seeing what unbribed he'll do
There's never any reason to!" :* :*

I can't get the BBC link to work; if others have the same problem, maybe try this one.

Not sure what else to say. Condolences to families and friends of course, but other than that....Christ, I don't know. Prayers maybe.

Respect, guys. RIP. What a pointless tragic waste.

just thinking about the QRF getting shot up by the locals - normally if you were looking at landing a force to get out their mates a good idea you could cheerfully shoot up any opposition... but since the locals are "friends" now knocking off 40-50 of them from a height would not go over well on CNN.

As for "we can't search for weapons coz bedrooms in islamic countries are taboo" - good grief. Don't let "Grizzly" Adams hear that one or NIrl will never be decommissioned...
