The Austrian newspaper Der Standard is reporting that a DC3 used by the Swedes to reconnoitre Soviet radar installations and shot down in 1952 has been salvaged from the Baltic. According to the paper, this recce was done "im Auftrag" (on behalf) of the US and UK and the Dak had "the latest British reconnaissance equipment aboard." Apart from the Dak, the RAF supplied a number of recce Spitfires, the Swedish AF also used Catalina's some of which got up close and personal with Sov Mig15's in the early 50's.

Then of course there are the stories of those unmarked black painted RB45's that sometimes recovered to Swedish strips at night for refuelling and repairs.

It was found, but the jury is still out on whether to recover it or not. It is rather clear that it is indeed the missing DC-3.

As for American or British equipment being installed, I guess time will tell.

A PBY Catalina, sent out to search for the DC-3, was also shot down by the Soviets. In this case, the crew survived with some injuries, including injuries from Soviet bullets. I recently read an article on how the remaining crew members got together at the Swedish Air Force Museum at Malmen AFB some time ago.

Cheers,
Fred
