Having just returned from a vacation in Scotland ( May 30th - June 13th) and
for the first time fly in by Air Transat (Toronto) to Edinburgh, We normally
fly in via Glasgow.

We also took the opertunity to fly Easyjet to Amsterdam from EDM.

Having flown into to a number of airports in North America, I found
Edinburgh easy to access, clean, and with sufficient amenities to fit the
needs of travelers awaiting for a transatlantic flight.

I agree with your comments that the taxi ways need to be improved, a fully
loaded long haul flight such as ours had to taxi up the runway, then turn to
utilize the full length.

My only criticisms would be the cost at the "Village Grill" We had a 9;30
am flight requiring a 6:30 am check in, and being a Canadian / Scot, I
wanted a "departing" Scottish breakfast.

One square sausage, one small strip of bacon, about a dozen or so beans and
a badly cooked egg, plus coffee cost nearly $6.
I know traditionally airports overcharge for meals, but when it not eatable
and overpriced it's a bit much.

Some airports are implementing a rule that the restaurants within, advertise
meals at street prices, Edinburgh should look at a similar scheme.

The other comment would be if Edinburgh wants to attract more transatlantic
flights, they need to accommodate the larger planes and passengers that go
with it.

On arrival, A330, the Gate walkway failed and we had too use the old style
outside stairs, the first attempt failed and ground services had to bring in
a second set of stairs still having problems adjusting the height for the
A330. After a 7 hr overnight flight, most of us just want to get off, it
took 40 min to get everyone of the plane.

On departure, the gate selected did not have enough seats to handle the 300
awaiting passengers so the were scattered all over the palace.
the baggage handlers had problems loading the luggage ( A330's as you know,
use pallets instead of loose luggage) and we were delayed for 45 min while
they tried to load it.) It not a good first impression.

In general Its a good airport, and I hope you get the proposed rail link
that has been promised, and keep up the good work on your web site

Just shows the nonsense of operating a few big aeroplanes into little airports.

Stick to regional jets for regional airports and leave the big jets to those that can cope.

I certainly wouldn't describe Scotland's second airport as a PALACE !!!

One would be hard-pushed to describe any airport, whether in Scotland or indeed elsewhere in the UK, as a 'palace' ;)

Rumour has it that a new ATC Tower is planned to be built at a better location, together with extensions to the parallel taxyway so avoiding those backtracks?

Fair amount of WIP to the east of the terminal as well.

>>I certainly wouldn't describe Scotland's second airport as a PALACE !!!<<

BAA's second airport for 6 months of the year maybe but 1st for pax when they have a choice.. :ok:

>>Stick to regional jets for regional airports and leave the big jets to those that can cope.<<

Those that can cope? One would be an airport that BAA
decided to abandon and has been a thorn in its side ever
since.?:E :ouch:
