From 1st November 2003, holiday-makers will be able to fly non-stop from Birmingham International Airport (BIA) to the golden city of Amritsar in northern India with the world’s first ever inclusive tour charter flight series to the Punjab. Specialist tour operator, Poo uk, offers a variety of tailored holidays to Amritsar including flights, hotel accommodation and visits to ‘The Golden Temple’ and the world famous ‘Taj Mahal’ at Agra.

UK charter airline, Flyjet, will operate the direct flights for Poo uk every Saturday evening, departing from Birmingham at 22:00 and returning on Sundays at 16:40. A Boeing 757 aircraft will be used with capacity for 213 passengers including 40 in the forward ‘Anugraha’ cabin. This provides passengers, at a very small additional cost, with a dedicated check-in facility, 50% more personal space on board, priority disembarkation, complimentary drinks and a 50% increase in checked baggage allowance. Not only will passengers experience a first class in flight service, they will receive a choice of complimentary meals and in-flight entertainment.

Amritsar has always had strong historical links for the Sikh community. Poo uk’s new packages will now open up fresh opportunities for holiday-makers to explore this special part of India, which is characterised by some of the most important religious, historical and contemporary sites in the world.

Peter Vella, Birmingham International Airport’s Business Development Director, said, “We wish Poo uk every success with their new venture. This service complements our already existing and thriving scheduled operation to the Indian sub-continent and offers even more choice for those wishing to explore Amritsar, a city which has a fascinating sense of culture and history”.

Jimmy Pooni, Director of Poo uk said, “Our operation from Birmingham will offer new opportunities for people in the UK wishing to explore Amritsar and beyond. We offer a range of packages to enable tourists to enjoy the wide range of attractions to suit their needs and interests. I’m delighted to launch this new programme, which will provide a vital tourism link and open up new opportunities for the northern region of India”.

The weekly flights will commence and conclude at London-Gatwick.
