EgyptAir plane stuck in sand

Cairo - An EgyptAir flight skidded off the runway as it landed in Khartoum early on Friday and got stuck in the sand, the company announced, saying no one was hurt.

A statement said the pilot of the Airbus A-321, which was carrying 132 passengers, lost control of the aircraft after it touched down.

EgyptAir chairperson Atef Abdul Hamid said another aircraft had been dispatched to the Sudanese capital to cover the return flight, and that a technical team aboard would investigate the cause of the accident.

I seem to remember them doing their bit for local agriculture by plowing the fields next to the runway at Harare Intl Airport about 2 years ago. A bit of an expensive exercise as one engine was ripped off.

They had to charter a B747 freighter to bring in all the equipment etc. to fix it.
