Qantaslink B717 nearly on highway ?

I heard part of an item on ABC radio about a Qantaslink B717 which was approaching the highway, Mackay I think, about a month ago.

I went back over old threads but couldn't see anything. Can anyone point me to a thread or some more info please.

Awwww shucks thumpa, thats not in the spirit of having a little teansy weansy dig.No need to get all defensive. Maybe one day you may fly for a real airline and on a NG 737 not a Douglas hand me down.

By the way, yes, flying with glass is good, been three years now since I started flying a glass cockpit aeroplane and I too find it good.

Also you may want to check your spelling old chap, I think you may have been vapour locking or the bolts may have been popping out of your neck when you were writing your reply.

Question for the B717 rated out there

On reading about the above mentioned event on the front page of my local paper under the headline "Terror in the skies" certian comments and observations were made by some "Experienced travellers" hmmmmmm.

Q1. The aircraft was reported to be at an angle of 45 degrees before commencing a steep ascent that pushed the observer back into his seat. Must be some fairly high lift devices fitted to maintain that sort of attitude and hold a 3 dergree GP! As for the G force.

Q2. The pilot seemed to be on and off the throttles a bit. Is it normal to make power adjustments when flying planes?

Q3. The thing I found most disturbing was the suggestion that the pilot had "lowered the wheels in preparation to land, he must have thought the road was the runway" Is it true? Do you guys normally lower the gear prior to landing? Horrifying!!

Q4. The pilot anounced that they were going to go around and have another go at landing, then it just went silent!!!. Why don't pilots leave the intercom on for the whole flight and read poetry during a missed approach for the benifit of the PAX, I mean at is not as though your busy is it?

Probably the most entertaining bit was when this observational guru stated that it was even more terrifying than the time he and his wife experienced an engine failure during a T/off roll on an Egypt Air flight and the plane skidded to a stop at the end of the runway.

What a Tosser! What the F:mad: would he know about what was going on from his seat in the cab! Unfortuneately BLUE if they reported the FACTS as they happened they would not sell papers. They have to embellish these MUNDANE stories to attempt to gain the public interest. A very sad fact but indeed true.

Plenty of a/c have lined up incorrectly in bad wx around Oz and around the world. No big deal as either ATC or the pilots have picked up the anomoly. The average journo would not only not understand this but would not give a toss. They will do whatever it takes to keep the cash registers ticking over.

The power modulation referred to is normal for the 717, just as it was with the F28.

The autothrottle does hunt a bit, which is annoying if you are down the back. Then if you are down the back with no window, how can you judge your bank/climb angles??

My point exactly pullock, Also the 45 degree angle referred to was pitch!(down) not AoB. This clown also was able to determine that the aircraft got down to about 600 feet,was not aligned on the runway and would have touched down in 60 seconds from the go mapt. 300fpm on a 3degree GP? I hope this w :mad: nker is on board with me if I ever have a vac pump fail in IMC!
