Hey Guys,

Yr. 12 is fast approaching and soon I will be confronted with the task of selecting subjects for my final year of school. I hope to join the RAAF as a pilot when I leave. I have checked the ADF website and it seems that the obvious subjects (English, Maths & Physics) seem prominent. I have to complete 5 subjects, and so far have selected 4:

1. English
2. Maths Methods
3. Specialist Maths
4. Physics

5. History/Chemistry/Psychology/I.T.

I'm in a spot of bother on what to choose. :uhoh: I am doing both History and Chemistry (Units 1 & 2) this year, and enjoying them, but I'm not sure if I should do them next year.

What would the RAAF prefer? Should I stick with the History, or continue with a second Science (Chemistry)? Or would the psychology help me in the extrance exams? I.T. is prominent everywhere, and I realise flying does involve computers, so should I take up computers?

Has anybody recently been through the ADFA pilot scheme? What subjects did you have?

As you have noticed, I am quite dumbfounded on what to choose.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

A young pilot in distress! :O

Cheers,

Souls.

Soulman,

It seems that you have the basic subjects covered, so it really depends on what YOU want to do. I wouldn't worry about what the RAAF thinks with regards to your other subjects. If you're enjoying history then stick with it; it'll probably make you a more rounded person in the long run anyway than if you did another science subject that you didn't enjoy.

With respect to the psych stuff, just be yourself. They can usually pick someone trying too hard to second-guess the system.

Yes, flying does involve computers but I just use them, I don't program them. There is a difference.

I went through the ADFA pilot scheme in 89 (not too recent!!). My (NSW) year 12 subjects were

3U maths
2U related english
2U physics
2U chemistry
2U engineering science
1U compuer studies (on a microbee!)

and I went on to do a BE in aero eng prior to pilots course. This should narrow it down for anyone trying to ID me....

Hope this helps.
