Rumour of Ryanair to base at Bournemouth

Heard a rumour this week that ryanair are to base a 737
at Bournemouth for launch of a New route from Bournemouth.

With the current timetable Bournemouth now has 3 different RYR 737s a day but why are they mostly at night ?

Last year Ryanair said in the local press that they had plans to link Bournemouth to 'an Italian destination in the near future.' This has yet to happen, but they may consider Gerona on the Costa Brava after witnessing the scramble for seats on the proposed Buzz services to Malaga and Murcia.

They also said on local TV, when they cancelled the Buzz base, that they had 'no plans this summer to base any aircraft at Bournemouth.' This obviously leaves the door open for a 737 or two at Bournemouth sometime in the future.

I can't see that Flybe at Southampton would be considered real competition whilst they use 50 seater props. Compared to 189 seater 737's. Ryanair say they sell the first 70% of their seats at the two cheapest prices. Thats 132 seats per flight. Plus they can afford to hold a price war until they see off the competition. BA's Frankfurt-Main service from Southampton didn't last long after Hahn started from Bournemouth.

I Ryanair still planning on extending their flights from Newcastle?
Surely if Ryanair were going to start from Bournemouth they would have done it when everything was set up for them to do so when they bought Buzz, they had the personnel, slots along with everything else they needed

Just a note of info, flybe is using 146's not 50 seater turboprops from SOU. They also use a 78 seater turboprop that comes from jersey first. And as thay say the operating rpm is better than the 737.

.....and I guess a few more will be appearing when Alicante, Bergerac and the overnighter to Ibiza starts later this Month.

Not to mention NCE and BCN, if they are still on for the Winter season.

Heard on local news that BE have taken 250k bookings at SOU in the last few months.

Ryanair plans new air routes

SUN-kissed destinations in Italy, France and Spain and cheap fares could be on the cards for passengers from Bournemouth International Airport in the near future.

Low-cost carrier Ryanair has earmarked Bournemouth as one of its key bases for expansion over the next couple of years, a period in which it aims to become Europe's No.1 airline.

The company is keen to capitalise on the burgeoning success of its new route to Glasgow, and while it acknowledges the upset caused by the controversial cancellation of the Buzz flights earlier this year, it says local people will reap rich long-term benefits from Ryanair's continued presence and investment.

UK sales manager Kathryn Munro discussed the airline's future plans during a visit to Bournemouth to promote a new £19.99 special summer fare.

She said the response to the Glasgow service since its launch in February has been "absolutely fantastic", with planes carrying loads at more than 80 per cent capacity, sparking plans to eventually increase the frequency to two flights per day.

"We have had a good mixture of business and leisure custom, with people travelling for up to an hour-and-a-half to fly from both Bournemouth and Glasgow," she explained.

"It is not just the budget prices which attract people to Bournemouth, but things like low-cost parking and the fact that it is much more hassle-free than other airports."

The launch of the service coincided with Ryanair's controversial decision to axe the Buzz services due to start from Bournemouth following the takeover of its low-cost rival, telling holidaymakers who had bought 55,000 tickets that the routes to places such as Amsterdam and Paris were not financially viable.

But Kathryn said the Hurn complex loomed large in Ryanair's future expansion prospects.

"We have ordered 125 new planes over the next few years, and are looking to develop new bases and routes across Europe," she said.

"There is no doubt destinations to France, Spain and Italy would work from Bournemouth, but we have to make sure our existing routes deliver first - and we are almost there."

The £19.99 fare deal, which covers flights in early July and mid-late September, expires midnight tomorrow (June 19).

Well After the start of the topic the ryr flight from Hahn from July id to arrive at Bournemouth at 07.30 am....

There is no mention of this on the RYR Timetable but booking are at the new times.

Great News for all ...All we need now is the new flights to be announced.

Is it true that European is considering using some of their Boeing 737-200s for a new low-cost division like Palmair was going to launch?

I knew that they had a shortlived Swedish low-cost airline called FLYEuropean, but was wondering whether such a brand was being launched in the UK, I'd say there was a fair chance of such an operation doing well.

Also heard on the "jungle-drums" that Jet2 were going to make Bournemouth their next (second) base - would seem to make sense !!

The world is full of rumours and speculation, will it be Ryanair, European/Palmair or Jet2 that turns BOH into a "proper" airport. A few months back we all thought is was going to be Buzz (and look what happened !!!).
