The Hunter which crashed today hadn't come back from Coventry but Ireland.

It was an F6A, XF516.

Private jet crashes into river

A jet like the one which crashed
A privately-owned jet has crashed into a river on the coast of mid-Wales.
The Hawker Hunter jet - a former military aircraft - was seen plunging into the Dyfi Estuary near Aberdovey on Sunday afternoon.

The pilot - who was seen ejecting before the post-war fighter plane fell - has been rescued by an RAF helicopter, which was scrambled from RAF Valley in north Wales.

Coastguards said the aircraft had been returning from an air show in Ireland.

The pilot was travelling alone. His injuries are not yet known.

Helicopters from RAF Chivenor and RAF Valley were called to assist after the crash, and were joined by the North Wales Police air support unit.

An eye witness said he heard a noise at 1515 BST, looked up, and saw a pilot ejecting from jet.

Another item was then thrown out of the jet but the onlooker did not see a parachute opening.

The plane is now on lying on marshland on the Borth side of the estuary and accident investigators have been informed.

I am posting on behalf of the Penrice family to thank those people here and elsewhere who have sent messages of goodwill and ecouragement to Craig. To update on his progress, he underwent a long and complicated period of surgery at Nottingham last weekend. The next few days and weeks will be crucial in his recovery and to this end his family have asked for some space and time for Craig and those nearest to him to concentrate on his recuperation. Friends may contact his wife direct but she would appreciate it if the ladies and gentlemen of the press would refrain from pestering for information. I will relay here as time and progress permits. Good luck Craig our thoughts are with you.
