Question for Canadian Air Force member

I saw a couple of Lears in CDN military markings complete with hardpoints and some small munitions. What in the blazes are you guys doing with those. Is the Lear used as some sort of trainer? I wish I had my camera with me.

ehhh....target (flag sorta thing) towing maybe? I saw a couple at the Aussie Airshow this year carrying pods that looked like stand-off weapons. Apparently they get ex-hornet pilots to fly these things.

I got an answer on the Canada Forum. They are targets and they are operated by Phoenix AirGroup.

Lears and Westwinds kitted out for target towing, Aussie company contacted for it now is Pelair. The requirements for the flight crew is fast jet time as the ops are quite unusual for civvy spec aircraft and the quals are to meet CAA requirements. The boys are cleared to 50' or thereabouts and fly all sorts of profiles including simulated missile profiles like the Harpoon etc. for the navy contracts and target tow for the Navy and the Air Force.

Cool concept going on a mission with the boys, sitting back in the cabin in the big comfy leather chair at 50', 300 snots, eating Minties and watching the bow of a frigate blur past your window! That was after the Kiwi A4's had already smoked the ship of course.........

So unfortunately BBD, noflow wasn't seeing things.

Obviously I was mistaken. They looked like Canadian markings to me and they even had a Canuck registration number although that should have been a clue that they weren't military since I'm sure Canada is like the US and does not register their aircraft with civvie tail numbers. At least we got it figured out. Now for the next question. What could they have been up to well south of the 48th parallel? Are they doing some side work for the US military?

I was not reffering to the comment on the fact that they were in CDN military markings because this I am certainly not familiar with, primarily the aspect of the Lear's configurations clarifying Hornet Boy's and noflow's questions on what they may be carrying on the hardpoints and what types of tasks they may be involved with etc.
