I am 34 years old and have just completed my JAR PPL.. I have now got 60 hours flying. Am I too old to consider flying for a living? Does anyone know before I commit thousands to something which may potentially outr of reach.. .No one seems to know.. .. .Cheers. .. .Shaun

No you are not. I know of guys who got their first commercial job at the tender age of 39!!

Of course your'e not to old.. .How old is to old anyway? I'm 37 this year and I am studying for my ATPL's in the hope that one day I will get paid for something that I love the most (flying).. .Good luck with whatever you decide to do and may the force be with you.

Absolutely, you're never too old to learn.

Not as long as you're under 65... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> . .Shouldn't think so as I know several who have applied to big airlines such as SAS in their forties. You should still have plenty of time.... .Good luck! . .. .regards/lns

Being in your mid 30's isnt going to be a complete barrier to finding a job, just look at the average age of the Astreaus cadets.... .. .If you have a wife and other significant commitments the training will absorb a huge amount of your time (like, all of it!) so be sure to make them aware of this fact. A supportive and understanding spouse is a must.. .. .Dont forget that what ever time and money you budget it wont be enough. Add at least 20% of both as a minimum contingency.. .. .Best of luck, and it is supposed to be fun - tell yourself that every morning...........

Thanks for that everyone. At the moment I am a teacher and the thought of spending the rest of my life doing that brings on depression.. .All I have to do now is find the dosh to do it!! Time for a Virgin One Account. Fortunately I am not married and have no kids so thats a plus.. .. .Cheers

Hello there,

I am 34 and just got the big break with astraeus, go for it. Just make sure you plan your finances carefully to avoid unecessary extra stress and choose the FTO very carefully. I beleive that the cheapest way to get there this days is to go the PPL + 150 hours + ATPL theory + CPL ME IR. That is a whole different topic though.

Good luck
