Isn't the Sound of Sleet a watery location somewhere up near The Kyle of Localsh? Had a look in my road atlas but doesn't mention it, but I'm sure there is one up there.

Got a feeling from my air charter days in Scotland that it is on the south east coast of Skye (south of Kyle as you say). Don't know of any seaplane history, though I'm sure if you contacted the Skye tourist board they could help?

Found it - Sound of Sleat, as BOAC says, off the south-east coast of Sky, north of Mallaig. I know there was a Sunderland/Cat base further south at Oban. Hope this may help you.

Hi

My parents used to live in a cottage overlooking The Sound of Sleat. With my interest in aviation I am sure I would have heard of any flying boat base.
There have been 3 airfields on The Isle of Skye. There is another just North of Skye (Plockton), but nothing anywhere near Sleat.
There was (is) a low level route that was up the Sound from South to North, I used to wave at the Vulcan pilots as they went past level with the cottage !! I also had an airmiss there with a C130, but that's another story!

Having seen it, and crossed it on the little 6-car ferry, I struggle to imagine seaplanes being anything other than moored there, and that stretches credibility in the currents down that Sound. I certainly can't imagine anybody trying to fly from there.

Hi Mr G

There I was in this Islander - then along comes two of them big erky birds - wot appens but one of them decides a 360 is a good idea - just as I is goin behind im.

Well, a quick dive and a look of disbelief (co-pilot of BN2 stares at co-pilotof c130).

Waved at each other and continued !!

BTW Mabel sent south on car trailer in January - now resident nr Basingstoke.

Best wishes to Mrs G. (TLFB as she used to be known).
