Here is a weird one,

Good mate of mine has recently started to get dizzy spells. Not too debilitating apparently as they occur if he stands up too quickly, or is tired. However if he is 'up and about' he his fine. until he moves his head too quickly.

Fortunately he is not an aviator, but he links it to his mobile phone, which he is almost genetically bonded to. What you think? He reckons that the signals have zapped his inner ear, and that is what is causing it. He also reported that after a mammoth 45 min call he had got a headache!!!!

He has no history of dizziness, nor in his family. His doc tells him he is just getting old (he is 32).

From my limited understanding of mobile phone comms then a 'microwave' effect on your brain may well be a risk, especially if you use them a lot.

Any other views?

You and your friend could be right.

Here is a suggestion to check it out. Have you friend use an ear piece and microphone and have him clip his mobile to his belt - somewhere away from main organs. If his headaches go and he stops having the dizzy spells but starts getting pains near where he has the phone clipped on - then basically he should give up mobile phones and try something safer like drinking or even dare I say it smoking which will probably take longer to kill him.

On the other hand there are quite a few other causes of such dizzyness - such as low blood pressure for a logical start....

Good luck with the extended investigation

I get head aches with mobile phone use especially when stressed. They are differcult use / hear in a helicopter so it does not effect my flying. £180.00 on a car kit is a good buy

I would suggest that your friend in view of the persistence of his symptoms visits his/her doctor.

These symptoms are unlikely to be caused by his mobile phone use.

As gofer points out, dizziness is a common problem, and can have one of several (hundred!) causes.

Its unlikely to have been caused by a mobile phone, although never say never. As far as I know, there is no evidence linking mobile phones with dizziness, (although no evidence of effect is not the same as evidence of no effect).

If your friends symptoms persist, and he/she remains worried, get him/her to hound his/her GP.

There's no evidence a mobile phone would cause this.

It doesn't sound typical for it, but it could possibly be Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, for which a course of simple exercises can be very effective.

Anyway, he needs to see a quack if he's concerned. (Obviously.)

I get the same symptoms after prolonged periods of stress. I am told that one should avoid overweight, under excercise, smoking and alcohol and dehydration all of which I understand exacerbate this apparently common stress related condition.

Sure it's not just a simple problem with his sinuses?

As late as yesterday afternoon there was a piece on CNN Steam Radio concerning Analogue Mobile phones - with a specialist having consolidated data on over 1600 cases of brain tumours in the last 10 years - facts from memory so they could be slightly scrambled - anyway the conclusion was that analogue cell phone users had a 30% higher probablity of getting brain tumours. Interestingly those tumours were mainly on the side of the brain that the mobile user had regularly held the phone to his ear!

No stats on Digital phones as they have not been around for ten years, was CNN's comment at the end.

Msakes you think whatever the truth might be... ;)
