Can anyone please supply the formulae to be able to convert a TACAN channel to a VOR frequency so that you can receive the DME function. I used to know it but it's filed away in ' a safe place' somewhere .

from my little old yellow book
X-channels-108.8-112.2=ch 17-59
112.3-117.9=ch70-126
133.3-134.2=ch60-69
134.4-135.9=ch1-16( no 134.3)
y-channels108.05-112.25=ch17-59
112.35-117.95=ch70-126

Thanks Sycamore,

Could you please check the frequencies in your "little old yellow book" for the 'X' channels in the 17 to 59 range. Something is not quite right I suspect as there are 42 channels but only 34 frequency steps. All the others are OK.

The formula to get the DME(VOR) frequency from a TACAN channel is the following:

There are two 'keynumbers' - 1063 and 1053 - which you have to add to the TACAN channel to get the DME frequency.

Up to channel 59 you have to add 1063.
From channes 70 on you have to add 1053.

Example:

TACAN channel is 44:
44 + 1063 = 1107 = 110.7MHz

TACAN channel is 98:
98 + 1053 = 1151 = 115.1MHz.

Should be quite easy with this formula.

Sycamore/ LeCerc
Just as well you didn't limit yourself by 'saying it only once' several times.

Dbate, your formulae is more like the data I remember, but it's not as comprehensive as Sycamore/LeCerc's data.

So now by combining the two, I have;

X Channels;

1 to 16 plus 134.3
17 to 59 plus 106.3
60 to 69 plus 127.3
70 to 126 plus 105.3

Y Channels

17 to 59 plus 106.35
70 to 126 plus 105.35

Maybe I'll get the chance to tune a TACAN in this week and find out if it works !
