Or try a Mi 8, I just don't know where to hire them. I think they lift 4000 kgs.

The Mi8 will happily lift 5 tonnes @ sea level and 3 tonnes at least up to 10,000ft.
If you are looking for a one off lift, the Cougar is probably the one to go for but if it is anything long term like a contract I'd seriously consider the Mi8.
Contact me if the latter is the case

For heavy lift.....Columbia, Carson, and Erickson all have heavy lifters....BV107, BV234, S61, and S64's. But probably in the wrong continental area for consideration.

For up to 3 tons, but not over, at sea level, probably the Bell 214B will be the best bet. All the real heavy lifters SASless mentions will easily lift more than this, and of course you'll pay for this extra performance.

If a slightly smaller maximum load is not an insurmountable problem, the Super Huey (205A++ in its various forms) is good value for money.

Lots of operators of both types, especially in the US and Canada.

Lordy....a single engine helicopter doing cargo lifts in the UK or Europe? Don't believe we will be inundated by 205's there! Crikey....the paperwork alone to do such a lift would double Champion Paper share prices by double....assuming you could even get permission at all.

The Kaman K-Max will lift 3 tonnes. THey were operation on the fires this year in Aus and doing an excellent job.
Columbia Helicopters operate some for use in logging, may be worth contacting them. The K-Max is extremely quiet, with very little down wash.

Know what you mean, SASless, but, believe it or not, there is till a lot of single-engine lifting going on in Europe, especially in the Alps. Lamas, Alouettes, Astars, at least one B214B in Austria, H500s, Kmaxes. And that's just the ones I know of personally.

Why? Well...maybe....because it works?

Now, I hope the JAA don't read these forums or another good thing will get squashed...

Go to [email protected] Swiss lifting company with AS332C1 short version of 332 4000Kg lifter, single pilot lifting availible in europe until the logging season starts in Switzerland. They also have a K Max. Also Heli swiss have a Kamov 32C which will outlift the 332 but is very slow on the job.
