SAS (Mar19, 2003) is expected to announce the new name for its low cost airline. Snowflake is reported to be that new Name which will be launched with a fleet of 4 Boeing 737-800s. LN-RPN is expected to be the first aircraft to wear the airline's livery followed by LN-RCX.

Germania (Mar19, 2003) plans to base the 17 Fokker 100s it acquired from US Airways in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. From Jul03 the airline will gradually begin low cost service to destinations such as Lisbon, Milan, Moscow, Nice, Palma, Rome, Vienna and Zurich.

Scandinavian Airlines is launching its lowcost operation on march 30 with four 737-800's seating 150 pax.

From the press release:

"snowflake will start with four Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with seating for 150 passengers each."

150 seats in a 737-800 is hardly in the low-cost mould......most other lca's put 148 or so in a -300/-700, and a charter config -800 holds closer to 180. Can they really compete with the "true" lca's in the long term with this lower density?

The 150-seat layout is for summer 2003, they will be reconfigured to 184Y in winter 2003.

In American, a "flake" is an unpredictable, unreliable person. Does it have a similar meaning in English?

I don't think I'd name my airline so it might be called "Flake Air" in derision.
