I'm 50 soon
Nearly PPL(H)
£50,000 cash available
£1000 per month available
No ties, no wife, no kids.
Lots of degrees and teaching quals and IT experience + hundreds of hang glider hours.
Realistically, Commercial employment as Pilot is a bit of a fantasy.
What other related directions could I consider?

Fantasy? Neddn't be.
Don't dream it, be it, as Frank N Furter from the Rocky Horror Show sang.

If you're serious about it you could be trolleying around in a Shorts 360 for the last 10 years of your working life.
I know a chap who got his CPL at the age of 58 AND got a job.
An airline will want to get at least 3 years service out of you and with your age its not like you'd be hopping from company to company so thye can be pretty sure you'll stay.

This is fixed-wing of course. I can't comment on the rotary market.

It's hard work, of course, but you sound reasonably well endowed academically so get the books out and get to work.

Good luck whatever you choose.
