According to the add in Flight International the requirement for joining as an S/O is 1000 hrs and ME / turbo-prop and bla bla bla BUT how much experience is ACTUALLY required to be considered? Anyone with some info on this? Do you know anyone who joined and his/her level of experience?

Any info appreciated!!

Would they consider you if you held all of the above qualifications but were slightly short of the hours requirments. The key being that you are a local with right to reside and happy to be employed under local terms and conditions ?

What if you have only 900 hours, but 680 of them in a F 50 turboprop, any change still, all other req met? I hope the quality of the flight hours is more important than the grand total..

I am not a local, but they didn't post that as a requirement..

Short answer is No. Its a box ticking exercise intially and CX has set the min at 1000hrs.
Until you tick all the boxes your application just 'remains on file'.
Only after that will the quality of your experience become a factor.

Jumping through hoops and putting ticks in boxes is very much the 'FH' way............and there's no use at all fighting it with logic. Sorry.

I was offered an interview for a S/O position with CX with the following times:
2700 total
1700 multi turbine
1000 turbine PIC.

Good luck to all those applying and building the hours!

hello to all those in the know

I sent in my application, but since its from a place where the donkey cart still has to take it to the nearest town from which a delapodated taxi takes it to the city and from where a very dodgy air postal service hopefully takes it near to where its supposed to go, and where people have no idea of the word fax, ...................... please, has anyone got an email adress where I can follow up if they have received my application?

Thankx a mil

On the hours front the extremes I have seen lately for S/O are 1000hrs to 10500hrs.

Do you need a Hong Kong Permanent ID card or just an ordinary ID Card to apply?

I fear it may be the former.

cheers!

I returned from a SO interview in Hong Kong a few weeks ago. Almost all of the candidates had between 3000- 5000 total hours most coming from turbo-props and a couple from jets.

Although I haven't signed any contract yet, it looks like I have the position. Cathay has a lot bigger fish to fry right now so I believe we are naturally the last priority and anticipate a lengthy wait to start training.

Good luck to all applying!

I completed the S/O 1st interview 2 weeks ago and received a phone call soon after for the second interview to take place in May. I then got a call 4 days later saying that it was postponed temporarily and that they would call soon about the new dates for the final interview.

I have 2100 hrs total, 1500 turbine, no turbine PIC.

I expect, as you say, flyby2, there might be a long wait for all currently in (and outside of) the process. However, something on the horizon is exciting and comforting nonetheless.

Good luck to everyone applying, hopefully people and Cathay return to good health soon.:ok:
