View Full Version : Exam results after Jan re-sit dead line (again)

I just got home to find my results - good news over all - except today is the 18th, and the CAA website tells me that the closing date for Jan exams/re-sits is Dec 17th.

I have planned on starting my CPL at the end of JAN, and will need to pick up a re-sit before then. Will I have any chance of pursuading them to let me sit in Jan? After all, they are never full up at Silsoe...

This is truly irritating and bloody typical of the Campain Against Aviation

I simply can't afford to be kicking around until mid Feb.

When I sat my ATPLs (under CAA) a buddy of mine was finishing off the last few exams just before he completed his IR. So you can start you flying.

However, if you fax the CAA with you request I'm sure they will fit you in. Well they did a few years ago when I forgot to book my exams until a week before the exam date!

Give me a call tomorrow if you want a chat about it.

Nishko,

I had this exact problem a couple of months ago. It's probably worth asking the CAA to fit you into the January sitting, but don't expect too much.

I asked over the phone on the morning my results came out, and was given a flat "no" even though that sitting was nowhere near full. I live quite close to Gatwick so drove over there in the hope of speaking to whoever is in charge of the exams, he too said that there was no way they could let me in for the next sitting. I agree with you that their timing of results and deadlines for exam entry is absolutely ridiculous. Lacks any sort of common sense doesn't it, at a time when students most need any sort of help they can get?

I ended up waiting about 6 or 7 weeks for one re-sit, as it sounds like you may have to do unfortunately. But Capt Crash is correct, there is no reason why you can't start the CPL before you have your results. I did this, although there is a risk that if you fail the exam you will have to put the flying on hold just as you get into the CPL, because I don't think you can do the CPL test until you have passed all the exams. So only do this if, after the exam, you are confident you've passed it.

Good luck with it all,
Billy M

Correct me if I am wrong but..

The timing of this is organised so that
resits are done on a 2 month cycle

The results are timed to come out just
after the closing dates

a wee bit of advice for next time.

As the left hand dosn't know what the right hand is doing at Gatwick. Its well worth sticking the form in anyway for the dates you require. The offical line is NO but if you don't make a issue of it and take what your given, things sort themselves out (they did for me).

Lets face it if you apply for Gatwick they don't have a problem posting the papers out etc. I would fax the application through for Gatwick and you might have a nice suprise.
