I heard on the news last night that the army has released its report into the causes of the tragic gazelle crash, which I think occured in Wiltshire in late 2001.

From the limited details given by the TV the accident was caused by an in flight structural failure.

Does anyone know any more details on this or where I might be able to find the report on the web?

Condolonce again the the family of the pilot, I am not sure whether knowing that there was no pilot error involved is any comfort to you or not.

whirly :

Check BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2688963.stm) - 23rd January for details of the inquest.
Took me 2 minutes with Google.

It's unlikely that you'll see the full formal report unless you're in the military.

The pilot was the AAC School Liason Officer and had been flying members of Kings Taunton CCF all day. He had been flying a number of other cadet forces during the week, including my old school, in the same aircraft.
I know a civilian chopper operator who had seen a report within a few months of the accident, but not sure though what sources.

He was a great pilot and very good with the cadets. It was a tragic accident.

I am sorry that I was unclear in my original post - it was the formal report I was after. I had also found the Beeb's report on google.

I was aware of the background of the flight as the incident happened locally and my QFI is ex Kings Taunton and AAC, I guess I took a special interest in it as I had my first helicopter experience in an AAC gazelle when I was in the Cheltenham CCF, and what a ride it was!

Thank God there were no cadets aboard. A tragedy nonetheless.

Oh dear. BH, '79 - '84, only got a go in the back of a Wessex at Penhale but did get a go in a Chippie at Filton. Spent one Wednesday's "Adventure training" at Colston Hall ice skating.

PMs on their way to the both of you, whirlycopter and JSTR !
