As far as I know it is a full day but as I live in Yorkshire I would like some information on the day.

What time does it start and would I be better going down the day before and staying in a hotel overnight ?

Do the CAA have any accomodation that they rent out for a night ?

Any comments appreciated.

Hi Northern Highflyer

It is half a day. When you ring to book, you can choose a morning or afternoon appointment.

Being a fellow Yorkshireman, I have always travelled down the day before and stopped in a Traveloge (or equilivant) so I am fresh for the medical the next day. There is nothing worse than the 4 hour drive to Gatwick!

Have you applied for your Class One?

If so you should get an appointment time, just like going to the doctors. If you are lucky it would be in the afternoon, although from yorkshire you will still be pushing it to get down to Gatwick, (an early start I should imagine!). The actual medical will take a few hours at most, usual stuff, eye test, hearing test, x-ray, urine sample, a few questions and an examination. Accomidation would have to be at one of Gatwicks local Hotels Im affraid. The medical centre is a short taxi ride if you go by public transport. Agrree with dave as to staying over the night before, last thing you want is to be stuck on the M25!

Goodlook and take a magazine with you!

I had mine a couple of weeks ago, the appointment was for 8.30 and I was out by 12.30.

I got a bargain price hotel on totalstay.com. I got a room in the Best Western Gatwick Worth for £46 including breakfast. It was only about 10 minutes drive from there to Aviation House.

I'm in north cheshire, so the distance between me and gatwick is much the same as from yorkshire.

I had an afternoon appointment. Set off very early for a 4-5hr journey. Got there in plenty of time, had something to eat, went in, did a lot of sitting round in dressing gowns, being seen by various people.

I dont see the need for a hotel stay - unnecessary expense. The thing is already cripplingly expensive...

In all I quite enjoyed the whole day - except the scan and the flashing light thing (heeeellp I can't open my eyes.......................................) sorry a flash back there...

I thought the best part was the doctor at the end signing the Class 1 medical certificate!!!!

Did they issue yours on the day ? I understood it to be about a 2 week wait.
