Virgin chases Alliance from Rocky, Gladstone

Regional carrier Alliance Airlines will end its services from Rockhampton and Gladstone due to losses accumulated since last year's arrival of Virgin Blue.

The last flights out of both cities will be next Wednesday.

All passengers booked on central Queensland Alliance flights after then will be offered a full refund or a booking on another airline.

Despite the move, company spokesman Tony Harrington says business outside of central Queensland is still going well.

"The rest of the company is trading quite strongly, we have scheduled flights to Townsville and to Norfolk island, we have a very strong charter and flying operation," Mr Harrington said.

"We have a very, very lucrative maintenance division, where we do third party maintenance for other carriers as well as our own aircraft.

"All of those businesses and things are still working well."
